This thread was started by **Andy** about his not liking to be called annoying for his annoying hijacks. I think _this_ hijack has more bearing on the OP then the _other_ hijack in the thread that prompted _this_ thread. See? Makes perfect sense. Plus all the other stuff. Train wreck? Why there was jack-bootery, snarkiness, a visit from many of the local hall monitors, suspensions, bannings, jackassosities, suspicious mewbies, namecalling. . . the melodrama was actually dizzing at times. I say BRAVO one and all. ---

Please describe what a suspicious “Mewbie” is. Banana Nut Bread: 1 cup sugar 1 stick butter 2 eggs Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. 4 mushy mashed bananas Add to the butter mixture and beat well. Mix together: 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Gently fold flour mixture into butter mixture. Add: 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes or until cake tester inserted in middle of loaf comes out clean. Eat with cream cheese, butter, or sharp cheddar cheese. I’m male. I’m a registered member on the Ms. Board, although I don’t post there much. I do understand their position, having been a participant on a dozen-plus feminist message boards and email lists and newsgroups which were _not_ officially restricted to people who did not want to trash the entire feminist agenda wholesale – and we spent about 30% of our time and energy replying to people who would post things ranging from the nontrollish but oblivious “Well I don’t see why you need to be ‘feminist’ OR ‘masculinist’ why can’t you just be ‘humanist’, why are you people in favor of female superiority that seems just as wrong?” all the way over to “You ballbreaking castrating bitches aren’t foolin nobody you say you want equality but you want to make men bow down and be subservent to women and my preacher is right things just work better when the husband is in charge and women have periods and shouldn’t be president or boss of corporations since you can have babies and we can’t that’s only fair anyhow”. But because those boards and newsgroups and email lists _were_ open to these things (and we’d reply to them and counter their opinions and rip up their arguments, a necessity if the forum were not to become their forum instead), it was a place where we had spirited and provocative discussions that started with things like whether or not feminist women should put time and energy into making the draft egalitarian or addressing anti-male biases in child custody and support, should refrain from doing so but be passively supportive of men’s groups which did, or be totally tacit on the subjects; and whether or not to actively oppose, quietly condemn, or be totally tacit w/ regards to women’s groups if they embraced female-protectionist laws or policies if such existed – lots of debate about when and where “feminism” means pro-woman and when it means pro-equality and when it means anti-patriarchy, and how to address the little eddys and counter-currents where these three things did not overlap in simple and straightforward ways. But, you see, usually they do. And having “a room of their own” to discuss feminist material without having to hear challenges that feminism itself is guilty of various unfairnesses and victimizations, or at least inconsistencies and ideological shortcomings is a very good thing for women who are just starting to dare to think that feminism might be righteous, might be a good thing, after a lifetime of hearing nothing but challenges to feminism, indictments of feminism as a horrible twisted ideology that only man-hating unnatural life-hating sour sick bitches ever get involved in. So, insofar as Ms. has made such a rule, they’ve established such a space and good for them. But yes, it makes it too bland for me, and many of you here would find the “safe room” restriction an effrontery. ---

I know that I have read, yes READ, at Ms. and I have seen women, yes, women, get run out on a rail because they dared to think feminism might be good for them, too. I’d violated no rule of the Pit, or of the boards in general, but in **Coldfire** ’s prejudiced opinion I was being a jerk for “attacking” an emotionally defenseless victim. Admit it, your personal feelings drove you to abuse your authority as Mod. ---
