# Coldie does Cali!

That’s right, people. In October, I shall be landing on United Statesian soil for the first time in my life. Together with my esteemed friend **Spiny Norman** , I will land at LAX on October 19. We leave October 27.
As you will understand, Mr. Normans primary goal is to visit a certain LA-based redhead. I, on the other hand, have no such limitations. 🙂

Just to let you all know, I guess. I’d love to meet as much Dopers as possible while I’m there! I don’t suppose y’all would be up for a, oh, ya know, **DOPEFEST!!** while I’m there?
Apart from the dates, there’s nothing planned yet. So I await all y’alls humble suggestions, too!
I’m pretty excited! I’m gonna get another stamp in my passport! Plus an anal visitation, since I’m Dutch and therefore _must_ carry drugs! This is gonna ROCK!! 😃

I’m assuming the Dopefest will be Friday, Oct. 19, as Shayna mentioned in the SoCal/NorCal Drunkfest thread? Mauvaise and I, and hopefully Padeye, (maybe jadailey too? other Phoenix Dopers?) intend to fly out to LA to meet y’all. As soon as I’m confirmed on the date, I’ll work on arranging a Phoenix Doper trek to LA for the Dopefest.

**Strainger** , I’d say we’ll probably do like we did in SLO last weekend - some will arrive on Friday and others on Saturday, so we’ll be doing stuff all weekend. So book those flights!

**Dave** , what part of the country are you in? Are you _in_ the Los Angeles area or would you be flying in from somewhere else? There are no specifics yet, but **Coldie, Spiny** & I will be in the South Redondo Beach area, so at least some of the partying will be taking place down there. Hope to see you, too!

Mmmmmm, I feel tingly all over…at the thought of Coldfire being so near to me. Check out your map, I’m the little dot
in the middle of the desert called Palm Springs, approx. 2 hours east of LA. I know I am a pathetically underactive Doper (averaging only .64 posts per day, as was noted in that ever-so-helpful post last week), but I can start cranking them out if quantity is what you look for in a Dope
Girl. I am making plans for Mr. Beckwall to be busy that week - hmmm, Palm Springs? strip clubs, Robert Downey Jr. and certain substances come to mind as diversions. Please please please tell me where and when, and I will figure out the how of the equation. Oh yeah, I could meet some LA Dopers too, that would be great (sigh, thoughts of alone time with Coldfire now entering dusty chamber of forgotten dreams).
People have told me that when I want something, I WANT IT NOW. Is this simply a juvenile trait gone awry in an adult world, or could it be the most enticing part of me???
BTW, Mr. Beckwall is my dear friend and room-mate, however there are no legalities involved in our relationship. This allows me to feel free to be a Doper slut. Only if you find

I’ll try to make it - sounds cool. However, **Coldfire** , have you considered traveling up to the San Francisco area? I mean, you should take in some actual _culture_ while you’re here, don’t you think? Or will you be content just to sit by the pool with Gwyneth and James Earl Jones?

I’m not kidding about it either (so you all better be serious!). RT tickets from San Jose to LAX are running $117 now, so I’m grabbing one while I can.
I’ll come in the morning of the 20th and leave dinnertime-ish on the 21st, so it won’t be a long visit, but I’m there.
Where should I book a hotel? There’s one I like (well, like the chain) in Westwood, would that be close? And do I need to rent a car or can I rely on taxis?
Now I have 2 months to convince Mr Duhnym why me going alone is a good idea. :eek:

If you’re going to stay in Westwood, you should get a car, with the traffic in LA, it could get expensive going from there to the Redondo Beach area.
Sue, did you check SouthWest? They are offering an awesome Internet fare ($60RT from Phoenix – I don’t see why it would be more from SJO).

Ok, **Scotticher** and I cruised the neighborhood this weekend for motels near my place. I just called around to all of them that we found and got rates for that weekend.
All of these are within walking distance to my place (1 block to .5 miles), which is where **Coldie** and **Spiny Norman** will be staying, as well as walking distance to the beach. I checked a couple of places that are more inland to see if the rates were any lower, and believe it or not, the couple I called were actually higher! “Inland” from me would be the Torrance area, anything off of Torrance Blvd. or Pacific Coast Highway. If someone can find a hotel or motel around there that’s cheaper, by all means, let us know.
These are definitely not fancy places - just little motels. But they’re convenient and seem nice enough.
Also, keep in mind that we haven’t actually planned any activities, so depending on where we go on Friday or Saturday nights, these could end up being far from _there_ and require longer cab rides for those without cars. But if the majority of out-of-towners decide they want to stay in this area, we will simply try to plan activities that are close by or help everyone make arrangements to get where we’re going as easily as possible.
