Jill, sweetie–you’ve done a wonderful job of getting all this put together. You’re amazing. I’m debating on coming down on Friday night–I’m off of work that day, but have to work Saturday during the day (I _will_ be there for the grand gala, though), which means I have to wake up at 6 am. I have requested Sunday off so I can enjoy the evening. About House of Blues, if anyone is interested–Sunday mornings they have a gospel brunch which is one of the best brunches I’ve ever attended. They put on a great show (it changes regularly, but it almost always has plenty of audience participation and good music). ---

After a HUGE delay, massive clouds, some turbulance, and a pilot who, instead of _warning_ us that we were about to land, decided it would be best to just quickly drop altitude while turning the plane (heart attack, anyone?), I’ve arrived safely in California. Whew! (Ever fly into SFO? Notice how it looks like you’re going to crash into the bay rather than just coast to a stop on the runway? Yeah… That’s kind of creepy.) ---

I’m going to have to opt out. In addition to having critical stuff going on at work, I’ve also recently given up drinking, and socializing is dicey, as my grip on sobriety is still rather tenuous. I’ll miss seeing y’all. ---

As I understand it, we’re going to be in a pretty nice area as far as bars and the like are concerned. It’ll be easy to just hook up with the entire group after dinner, after which we party on into the night! But the message is plain and simple: not everyone that’s coming to the DopeToberFest will be able to have dinner at **El Torito**. We need to make some arrangements about that. There’s a few possibilities, of course: [ul][li]People will be treated on a First In, First Served basis. In other words: the first 50 confirmed Dopers will eat at El Torito, and the rest will have to find another place to eat and meet up with the larger group later;[/li][li]People can also volunteer to have dinner at a separate venue (perhaps in one or more smaller groups);[/li][li] **Spiny** and myself can select dinner guests based on bra si… _intellectual capacities_, ahem, yup, that’s the ticket;[/li][li]None of the above, namely \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ (fill in the blank)[/ul][/li]Of course, the more logical options are the first two. It’s a luxury problem, sure, but I think it’s one we better address now. I’d hate for 70 people to stand outside the restaurant, fighting to get a seat inside! 😉 OK, that was the “serious” message. Thoughts, guys? ---
