Yes, he lived in Panama. I do not know the cause of death.

I was saddened to hear the news. I’m sorry I never got the chance to meet him in person, but I will never forget our interactions online. I had the pleasure to be word with him on the SDSAB and in moderating General Questions for several years. He was one of the smartest and most interesting people I’ve ever known. He was probably my all-time number-one favorite poster here. We won’t soon see his like again.

I’m shocked. When I saw the thread title I assumed it was some sort of play on the name or some form of joke. What terrible news! He will be missed by all who knew him. I know nothing of his personal life but he was a source of knowledge, wisdom, and good guidance here on the SDMB.

Oh no! The name Colibri is almost synonymous with SDMB. What a loss. It’s also a loss to the scientific community and the world. I had no idea of his work with the Smithsonian.
He will be missed.
