Kentucky #3 despite losing their entire team. NCAA hoops is so tough to predict in the preseason with all the turnover. Maryland is only #1 because of returning players. ---

Probably a little early **Zeldar** has not even put up a college football top 25 thread yet. As far as Maryland goes, Lefty Drisell said he was going to turn them into the UCLA of the East. That was about 40 years ago. ---

While we’re waiting - practice can begin on October 2 if the team has a game on November 13 - here’s a refresher on this year’s new rules (let’s see if I have all of them): [ul] [li]Shot clock is now 30[/li][li]The “no-charge arc” under each basket is now 4 feet in radius (NBA size) rather than 3[/li][li]Head coach can’t call time out any more[/li][li]Speaking of time outs, no more than three time outs per team are allowed (instead of 4) in the second half (plus one for each OT period)[/li][li]Only 15 seconds instead of 20 to substitute for a player who fouled out (supposedly, too many coaches were using this as a free 20-second time out)[/li][li]It is no longer a violation to be guarded by someone for 5 seconds without shooting/passing or starting/stopping a dribble[/li][li]Dunking before the game is now allowed[/li][li]Technicals for hanging onto the rim or other non-unsportsmanlike/flagrant fouls are only 1 free throw instead of 2[/li][li]Possible shot clock violations can be reviewed at any time[/li][li]Speaking of reviews, “diving”/“flopping” can be reviewed during a review for a possible flagrant foul[/li][li]Also, in the Postseason NIT, they will be using a “six fouls to foul out” rule[/li][/ul] ---

And this is one thing the Big Ten actually does pretty well, they let 'em play. Some people will say this hurts them in the postseason, though, when games are called tighter. ---

The players on the court, just like they did for decades before they started letting the coaches do it. It wasn’t Steve Fisher who called the “sixth time out” in the 1993 national championship game between Duke and {Vacated University of Overland Park, Kansas (now Indianapolis)}, now was it?
