College hockey shakeup.

Gophers on to Tampa, beating North Dakota 5-2. They play the Duluth/BC winner. The other game is Ferris vs. Union, both Frozen Four newcomers.

I’m delighted my alma mater – Union College – is in the frozen four this year.

There will be a new champion. Semis are April 6th: Union vs. Ferris and Minnesota vs. Boston College. The winner of the latter game will be the heavy favorite for the championship.

Interesting statistic for the Frozen Four. The Gophers have 5 national titles, the Eagles have 4. Ferris State has played 4 tournament games ever and Union College has played 3.

And of course, by April 6th, I meant April 5th.

Born and raised in Big Rapids Michigan, home of the Ferris State Bulldogs.

Go Dawgs!!!

Congrats to Ferris State, it was an exciting close game. I’m hoping they play the Gophers Saturday night.

Sure was,I was beside myself until we got the empty-netter.

I didn’t see this before, hockey is HUGE at Ferris, they would terminate football to fund hockey if it was in trouble, which it isn’t.

They’ve been going to Alaska for two decades now, I’m not sure that it’ll make a huge difference, especially since you can bet that the schedule makers will put teams in Fairbanks and Anchorage for consecutive series.

Also, it’s worth noting that playing games in Alaska allows extra games in the regular season. (This is the same rule that causes basketball teams to go to Hawaii and Alaska for in-season tournaments). An extra home series will go a long way toward making some of that money back.

The game’s not over, but I’ve turned the TV off, for fear that I might smash it. What a frustrating game. Congrats to BC. In the first two periods, the Gophers dominated shot opportunities and almost every facet of the game except the transition, and BC made them pay badly.

MadTheSwine: to be honest, after watching most of both games today, I’ll be shocked if the Bulldogs win Saturday night. If they do, they’ll definitely deserve it.

And Boston College is the 2012 champion, winning 4-1.

Now, to sit back and see who turns pro…

It was a good game, much closer than the score indicates.Great season for the Ferris State Bulldogs!

Yeah it was a great season. Kinda crappy when Michigan bombed out first game in the tournament, but nothing is too much of a surprise in a single game elimination when it’s hockey.
