Yeah, Kansas lost to Syracuse because they couldn’t hit free throws. I was having flashbacks of the 2003 National Championship game. I expect Kansas to have an average year with flashes of brilliance here and there, but it’s going to be another couple of years before they are a team of the same caliber they were last year.
Today should be very interesting as the Arizona Wildcats play Gonzaga this afternoon. A win for the Wildcats will help this team as they get ready to start Pac ten play. The Wildcats have been maddeningly inconsistent during the whole non conference schedule.
UK Wildcats stomp traditional rival Indiana. Don’t know what that means for my 7-3 team, though. Losses to UNC and Miami, both ranked, don’t rankle the soul like being beaten by VMI in a game where both squads scored over 100 points each.
Still, the Cats look to be making progress. I expect them to look much, much better down the stretch as these freshman, sophomores and a couple juniors mature and get more comfortable in Billy G’s system.
Also, props to GTown for an impressive OT win last night. Well done.
Not sure if this will hold up, but Minnesota is putting the HURT on Louisville right now. 50-38 halfway through the second half.
Ahh, good old Tubby Smith…we Cat fans hardly knew ye!
Also, 7th ranked Xavier, a small Jesuit school in my area was getting the absolute beatdown at the hands of coach K and the Blue Devils. I heard a score of 55-24…AT THE HALF!!
My Alma mater (Pitt) is ranked #1 for the first time in school history! How long will it last, though? The Big East is stacked this year, so loss in the next few weeks in inevitable. Oh well, I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
The Big East is going to be one hell of an attrition conference this year, with the likes of Pitt, Syracuse, UCONN, etc all beating up on each other. It’s going to make national rankings kinda meaningless until the end of the season.
In other news, U of L beat my beloved Kentucky Wildcats…barely. Goddammit Billy G, teach your guys how to quit turning the ball over!
Looks like U of Arizona isn’t going to do much this year. Two losses to start conference play isn’t the way to start. Arizona State beat Stanford handily, but lost to Cal. Who knows what’s going to happen in the Pac 10? I’d say ASU, UCLA, USC, and CAL all have a chance to win.
I was just looking at Rutgers’ schedule, and boy, what a tough stretch they had to go through. First of all, in ONE WEEK, they had to play the #1 team (UNC), #3 team (Pitt), #2 team (UConn), and now this week have to play #18 Marquette and #11 Syracuse. That’s all in a row. Wow.
Well done, BC. There is no better way to follow up beating the #1 team in the nation than by losing to a team ranked somewhere around #250.
They were outsmarted.
So far, looks like a back to back sweep by Arizona State over the Oregon teams. ASU seriously embarassed Oregon State on Thursday and right now are in command over Oregon.
University of Arizona should be able to handle Oregon State as well later today.
I"m also quite interested in UCLA/USC. Can USC pull an upset?
Nice work Kentucky, way to open up SEC play with a win over Vandy. Now run the fucking SEC table and get a good seed in the tournament!
No.
Is Wake now the favorite to win the ACC?
Basketball is a weird game. Sometimes shots fall. sometimes they clang out. If you can field 2 very good players and 3 that don’t get in the way too much, you can be competitive. On the right day ,you can beat a team that is much better.
Every year the top rated pre season teams get their horns honked by a lowly rated team. It is happening again this year. Thats the fun of it.
I think the prevalence of true parity in Div I hoops is a relatively recent phenomenon, though. You’re never going to truly see a team like the Wooden-led Bruins again, winning that many championships over and over again.
Holy Shit!
Jodie Meeks explodes for FIFTY FUCKING FOUR points in a big win over ranked Tennessee!!
School record!
GO CATS!!
I usually wait until after the NFL/College Football season to focus on college hoops, which tends to coincide with the start of the Big Ten Conference play. So, I suppose it’s time.
Just got done watching my Illini take apart Michigan at home. That gets them to 15-2 with 2 wins over top 25 teams and no bad losses. It’s also revenge for the loss last week to the Wolverines in Ann Arbor and makes it 13 years since the Wolverines won in Assembly Hall.
We’ve got a big matchup on Saturday afternoon versus Michigan State on the road. If we can complete the sweep of the state this week we should find ourselves entrenched in the top 25 finally. It’s a tough stretch of games facing UM, @MSU, OSU, Wisc and @Minny between now and the end of the month. If we can hold serve at home and steal one of the road games we’ll be in great shape.
The Illini are in great position to make the NCAA, but it’s asking a lot to win in East Lansing. I think the Spartans are finally hitting on all cylinders and a final four spot in Ford Field is definitely a possibility. Maybe they can go all the way and I can update my location, heaven knows the hockey team isn’t going to do it this year.
