College Hoops 2008-2009 Thread!

I’m not talking about wins and losses. Both coaches were viewed as worse than they actually were because their fanbases and boosters had unrealistic expectations.

Well, that’s Kentucky for you. Outside of bourbon, tobacco and horseracing, basketball is all they’ve got to talk about!

AND (blaring trumpets) UK is now #24 on the AP top 25 poll…WOOT!!!

That’s the spot the Illini were keeping warm, they’ve vacated it for loftier climes.

You so don’t want to see Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson in the tournament…

How do you feel about seeing Alex Legion…in Orange and Blue!

Grrrr…

I’m compiling a list of team/ind stats for UK…I’m telling you, this team is on the cusp.

Blocks per game: 7.4, 149 total so far, 2nd in the nation

Assists per game: 17.1 (Illinois 18.8!!),
17th in the country (marred quite a bit by their Achilles heel, turnovers, of which they average a whopping 18.4 turnovers per game!

FG%: 6th in the nation, at 50.2%

Free Throw %, 4th in the nation at 79%

Individual Stats:

Jodie Meeks, 3rd in the nation at 26.1 pts per game (and he’s efficient, he’s not shooting a billion times per game to get those points)

Patrick Patterson, 5th in the country in FG% (granted, he’s a center) at 66.4%

Jodie Meeks, 4th in the nation in 3 pointers made at 75 made versus 167 attempts, 45% (his FT % is also 91%, good for 8th in the nation)

Perry Stevenson, 45 blocks, good for 24th in the country (Patrick Patterson is 39th in the country with, well, 39 blocks)

Patrick Patterson, 7th in the nation in defensive rebounds…

Guys, it’s time to come on over and jump on the Big Blue bandwagon!

OK, I don’t know why I just posted all that crap! But I’m proud of my guys!

Gah. I need to keep my mouth shut!
Everytime I brag on my UK squad they get beat…this time at the hands of Old Miss on the road, 85-80.

I tell you what…Andy Kennedy is a GOOD coach, and has those boys playing HARD.

It’s likely also a case of “Kentucky’s coming to our house, let’s play above our heads and show them a thing or two!”

Sigh. Welp, it was fun being in the top 25 while it lasted…:frowning:

This is looking like a nice win for the Arizona Wildcats. Right now, they’re up 69-53. That Houston game may have inspired them especially with the whole Budinger incident.

That was a quality win by Arizona.

Arizona State lost to Washington State last night in a bad upset. Now, ASU has a tough game against Washington on Saturday. It isn’t a must win, but ASU would do well to win so they can stay ranked and stay towards the top of the Pac 10. Meanwhile, Arizona has a nationally televised game against Washington State at 11 AM local time on Saturday.

Can’t wait for both games! UCLA should handle Stanford to remain atop the Pac 10.

University of Arizona looked very sluggish during the first part of the game this morning. That weird 11 AM Mountain time start probably had a lot to do with it. Still, the Wildcats came back nicely in the second half and it looks like they’re on the way to a nice win.

61-49 right now with about a minute left. Too bad ASU couldn’t put away WSU like this.

At the midpoint of the second half and Washington is putting some hurt on Arizona State. I’m also wondering why this game, between two ranked teams, isn’t available in HD.

At least ASU has sprung to life.

Kentucky is reeling, the faithful are unhappy and not used to such debacles. Breaking into the top 25, sitting at 16-4, undefeated in conference play, only to drop three losses in a fucking ROW to teams with more desire and lesser talent.

Goddammit. 16-7 going into a game against Florida is looking pretty bleak. Sudddenly UK’s tournament bid hopes are in jeapordy. If they don’t make the tournament it will be the first time since Rick Pitino’s first year in the late 1980’s after Eddie Sutton’s criminal ass ran the program into the ground.

Fuck.

Mizzou looked good beating Texas in Austin the other night. They play a trap game against Iowa State tonight, and then a huge game against Kansas. Staying in the top four of the conference is important, as they receive a first round bye in the tourney.
:smack: Duke what were you doing out there.

Tubby must be looking pretty good right now.

Yeah, I never hated him but it was time for him to move on. I’m glad he’s succeeding with Minnesota. I have only seen them play one game this year, and I can tell the Tubster has them playing some pretty decent defense.

An excellent weekend of Pac 10 basketball as the Arizona schools sweep the Oregon schools on the road. UCLA also dominates Notre Dame.

Suddenly that’s not much of a feat! What a colossal downard spiral for the Golden Domers. Once ranked in the top 25, now losers of what, eight, nine in a row? How demoralizing is that?

I guess I should quit bitching about UK losing three in a row!

Yes, Georgetown and Notre Dame, both ranked in the top 10 at one point, now have 19(!) losses between them. A month of Big East play really separated the contenders from the pretenders.

Mizzou showed me last night (by beating Kansas :D) that they can challenge for the conference tourney crown.
