Well, in my case, I didn’t realize I was here because Giraffe and the Dope both look exactly the same in Tapatalk. It was only after I posted it that I realized where it actually was, and didn’t have the opportunity to fix it before the 5 minutes were up.

I know I’m incensed, especially since I have no idea what that is.

“FTFY” is internet for “fixed that for you” and is used to change the wording of a quote to something the original poster did not intend. It can be done for fun as **jayjay** did, as a simple spelling or factual correction, or as a form of attack on the poster by twisting his words. I assume the latter is why it is not permitted here between quote tags. Had there been a proper quote of **Kimstu** followed by

IIRC, the rule came about because people were altering quotes WITHOUT noting that they’d been altered. That is, without saying “FTFY” or “bolding mine” or anything else. And usually it was an attack on another poster.

That’s funny, because 4/4 was actually historically considered the problem. All sacred works had to be written in 3/4, as 3 was a holy number.

Thou shalt not tap thy foot at 2 unless it be to immediately proceed to 3.

I’m an English (as a foreign language) teacher at a high school here in Troll Country, and have had some fun explaining to my students that “The King’s Speech”, a mild and life-affirming movie if there ever was one, got an R rating in the US because of all the naughty words used in the speech therapy sessions. (Here? It was listed as permitted for all audiences, with a note that the subject matter would be of little interest to children.) Not all R ratings are created equal.

Back in April we showed the movie “Blood Diamond” in class and assigned a writing project in connection with it, something we have done for several years now. Mindful of the fact that the attack at Utøya last summer touched teenagers more than any other group, we warned our students ahead of time (without specifically mentioning Utøya) that it is a very violent and emotionally powerful movie. If anyone had expressed concerns, we teachers were ready to offer an alternative. To my surprise, no one did. I would have understood it if they had. But to simply say that the film got a 15 year rating and “I don’t watch films with 15 year ratings, it’s against my religion”? Yeah, you’re 18 or soon will be. Put on your big boy/girl pants and deal.

I tried to explain this concept, regarding the very same film, to a student in my class as well, but she wouldn’t budge.

Students like this are going to have a rough time in college, if they even make it through at all.

I’ve tried demonstrating this in class, drawing a big R at the top center of the whiteboard, then putting films like **The King’s Speech** at the far left and others like **The Passion of the Christ** and **A Clockwork Orange** at the far right, with a bunch of other in the middle all along the spectrum, making note of which ones have profanity but no violence, violence but no profanity, violence but sexual content, have all three, etc.

I hope it helps. It seemed to–this semester, anyway.

I’d rather see it as a Venn diagram. Bad line depictions are against my religion.

I was just about to post the same thing. I’ve discovered _ANY_thing can be expressed in Venn diagrams. And any decision, even tough ones…

“Jeepers, I’ve gotta eat healthier” So, VENN DIAGRAM to the rescue!
“Things that are good” vs “Things that are good for you” And… eat the things in the middle. (Lost 10 lbs. with that, and got to eat a lot of melon and steak and strawberries)
