You’d have to ask people like **Harborwolf** and **Hentor the Barbarian** , but I assume it is because of deep seated emotional and / or psychological issues. Further, being liberals, they dream of being able to create government that regulates every aspect of everyone’s lives.
If I had to guess it’s really part of a larger “war” on anyone with “rural” interests. Another key component of American liberalism is the larger goal of banning all private automobile ownership and forcing everyone to only use mass transit, which will force everyone to live in cities and not in rural areas.
