What about a friendship bracelet making kit? like the ones offered here:

[friendshipbracelets](http://www.amazon.com/Friendship-Bracelets-Klutz-Laura-Torres/dp/1570540535)

My kids (both boys and girl) loved making these. It’s not too messy, they look nice and she can swap with friends in her class (if they make her some as well). Don’t know if this is only an American thing, but no reason why Dutch kids can’t do it.
Hope things go well for her and her family.

[QUOTE=Marienee]
A little girl at my kids’ school has been diagnosed with a blood disorder/illness of some kind. It is called HLH in Dutch, which is not very much help. I have googled it but I can’t quite work out what it is, it seems to be an immune problem at the cellular level triggered by some kind of other infection. The treatment is the same as for leukemia, but it isn’t leukemia.

From [here](http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol6no6/fisman.htm):

> Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an unusual syndrome characterized by fever, splenomegaly, jaundice, and the pathologic finding of hemophagocytosis (phagocytosis by macrophages of erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and their precursors) in bone marrow and other tissues. HLH may be diagnosed in association with malignant, genetic, or autoimmune diseases but is also prominently linked with Epstein-Barr (EBV) virus infection. Hyperproduction of cytokines, including interferon-g and tumor necrosis factor-a, by EBV-infected T lymphocytes may play a role in the pathogenesis of HLH. EBV-associated HLH may mimic T-cell lymphoma and is treated with cytotoxic chemotherapy, while hemophagocytic syndromes associated with nonviral pathogens often respond to treatment of the underlying infection.
