It rained at my office yesterday at quitting time (of course), the first rain I’ve seen in over a month. It was quite a storm–torrential rain, high winds, and intermittent small hail. To illustrate, the wind was strong enough that the rain and hail were moving almost horizontally. My right ear was driven full of water (and one very small hailstone) by the wind as I walked to my truck. At my house, less than 10 miles away, I got not a drop. Stupid weather. ---

That was Illinois last year. I quit watering the lawn and concentrated on the trees. I knew a lot of people who didn’t and lost some trees. The lawn will come back; the trees won’t. ---

You can have some of our rain from the Delaware Valley area anytime. In the library where I work, we keep having ceiling drain leaks in the kitchen of our large meeting room, where we have our big programs. It’s apparently caused by drain backups from those maple seeds that actually sprout roots. This causes a waterfall in the kitchen which soaks the carpets. Then we have to cancel/postpone/move programs while they try to dry out the carpet. I’ve had to move my children’s musicians on Monday to a smaller area. ---

Today’s the first day in about 10 that it was less than 80 degrees at 8am with no rain in sight.
