Same for smilies and Star Wars. What’s a Doper to do? Thought of some more for me: I couldn’t get through more than the first couple chapters of LOTR and was bored to tears by the movie. I didn’t see any of them other than the first one. I can’t stand Peter Jackson films. I can hardly stand the Simpsons and I have a strong suspicion that anybody over 20 who can has some growing up to do, Matt Groening included. I saw a lot of it when I lived at my last place, since my roommate was a total Simpsons addict, and it just seemed like the same tired jokes over and over. When I tell this to diehard Simpsons fans, they defend the show by telling me how funny the stereotype represented by their favorite character is–basically, “I agree, the jokes are old and tired, but I’m not discerning enough to care.” I can’t stand reality TV. I think Joss Whedon is an insufferable hack, and his work is some of the most inconsistent glurge to ever be vomited up on the small screen. I prefer dogs. I haven’t voted, though I’ve been able to for nearly a decade now. I wouldn’t mind avatars. ---

I rarely go to any coffee shops anymore, though, because a couple of years ago I bought a $30 espresso maker at Walmart and I make my own lattes at home now. I have about 15-20 different flavored syrups, too. I never spellcheck unless I’m handing in a paper. I’ve never seen Buffy (well, I saw the movie, but never saw the tv show). Never saw Babylon 5. I don’t particularly enjoy the original Star Trek, except for the camp value. In fact, I might like Voyager best. And I LIKED Enterprise! I’ve never read a comic book. I’ve never even opened a MMP thread. Like lobstermobster, I hate the green smiley. To me 😃 is a much different expression than that green guy. For one thing, his eyes are closed, which makes him look smug rather than super excited, which is how I use the 😃 smiley. I think the confused smiley looks stupid purple. I think beer is one of the most vile tasting substances on earth. I haven’t been to the Pit in years, except when directed to a specific thread, but even that’s extremely rare. I never ever go into Great Debates because I think debating with this particular group of people is about as fun as clubbing myself with a mallet. ---

Other than an insect, I don’t know what Firefly is and don’t care to find out. I rarely watch television, and when I see it in a hotel room or some other place, I mostly find it frenetic and stupid. Reality shows in particular (what little I’ve seen) make me despair for the future of humanity. I hold conservative political views. I am a Christian, and attend church 2-3 times a week. I don’t even really know what anime is. I know I could find out, but I don’t care that much. I enjoy meals at chain restaurants. Sometimes I even like to get something at McDonald’s. Sue me. I hold the old-fashioned belief that one ought to respect the office of the Presidency, even if one does not respect the current occupant, and that while criticism is okay, and even essential, it ought to be given respectfully. I feel sorry for Britney Spears. It seems clear to me that she is desperately unhappy and has never been taught how to behave. I would help her if I could. ---

I’m a cradle conservative, and to the frustration of people trying to point out the inconsistencies in a pro-life position **do** think it’s still murder to abort the fetus of a rape/incest victim or to save the mother’s life. Understandable perhaps, but these circumstances do not make an abortion morally exempt. I thought Firefly is the worst series Whedon produced, and that Arrested Development was painfully unfunny. And reality shows are at best a waste of time. I’m an anti-foodie. If it were possible to get all the nutrients needed from the short list of foods I eat because I like them rather than merely tolerate them or to take a pill to supplement my diet, I’d be happy. There’s nothing wrong with putting ketchup on hotdogs, and people who are actually aghast that people do need other things to think about. I don’t think that cell phones have improved life in general, but have probably worsened society somewhat by giving people a new venue to display their entitled attitudes. They definitely oughtn’t be legal to use in a moving vehicle. While I think recycling and trying to reduce pollution are positive things, I don’t believe that global warming will have any widespread devestating consequences during my lifetime, and I won’t live to see the polar icecaps melt. I don’t believe in memes. ---

I despise meme. I think “I can has cheezburger?” speak is funny. Cats (neutered) should be allowed outside if they seem to feel strongly about it. Better to live happy, wild & free for a few short years than live a long but boring indoor life making the owner feel all loved & stuff. ---

Other non-cool things I do… I like Starbucks (I don’t drink coffee, but Frappucino is good stuff) I like chain restaurants (even Olive Garden and I’m an Italian boy) I think Arrested Development was only OK and that every episode felt exactly the same. I like reality shows I like big, dumb action movies I read “genre” fiction almost exclusively ---

I hate Family Guy and I think South Park is annoying. When it started, it was a show about kids who curse; that was amusing for about six episodes. Later, and the creators later decided it was the most cutting social satire of our time. Unfortunately I’ve never seen evidence that they have the writing ability or insight to pull that off. They’re great at oversimplifying stuff, but I don’t consider that a real talent. I think song lyrics can be good even if they don’t make literal sense. In fact, I think the best ones usually don’t make sense. I liked most of the classic literature I read in high school, though I certainly didn’t like _all_ of it. I don’t hate celebrities, and I don’t have that “I hate these people/hate paying attention to these people/hate being forced to pay attention to these people” gene. I guess I used to, but I had it taken out. I don’t believe in Elvis. I don’t believe in Zimmerman. I don’t believe in Beatles. I’m sorry, I got off track. I also think that, while misplaced apostrophes can be very annoying, grammar corrections are unnecessary and rude (unless the errors have made it hard to tell what is being said). ---

I hate Inn’N’Out Burger. I’d rather have a Big Mac anyday. And at least their burgers are close to edible - their fries suck. Firefly or Blake’s Seven or Serenity or Dr. Who do nothing for me. The new Battlestar Galactica sounds stupid, but I might have been scarred for life by the first one. BTW, I’m not sure not seeing the Star Wars prequels makes you uncool - just lucky. ---

I like Starbuck’s. I don’t want to learn how to use chopsticks. I could not possibly care less about Disneyland and all things Disney. Parades bore me. I never watched a single episode of **Cheers, The Sopranos, or The Wire**. I think **The Simpsons** jumped the shark long, long ago. I don’t think Blockbuster is all that bad. Shit, I didn’t even think **Lady in the Water** was that bad. Or AOL, for that matter. I am wavering these days among Christian Agnosticism, Quakerism and Deism. I don’t have cable, a laptop, an iPod, a BlackBerry, or a high-def or plasma TV. ---
