I hate Wal-Mart and haven’t shopped there in 5+ years. I drive a Toyota 4Runner. I think 90% of the anthropogenic global warming hype is just that. Hype. I did not say that I don’t believe that climate change is a reality. I use the word ‘fuck’ a lot. I am a registered Republican, however, I rarely vote Republican. I despise everyone running for 2008 Presidential election. I own guns. Several. I also like to shoot them. I smoke. I like to smoke in a bar when I drink. I’m pro-choice. I eat meat. I loved the Harry Potter books. I have only seen 1 episode of Survivor. The first one ever. That was enough. That’s all I can think of right now… ---

I have never read a Tolkien book, nor seen any of the “Lord of the Rings” movies. Same for Harry Potter. I haven’t seen a Simpsons episode I disliked. Including the one where Skinner reveals he’s really Armin Tamzerian. I buy my groceries at Wal-Mart. I thought Star Wars Episodes I through III were OK. I’m not a cat lover. Dogs rule. I use smilies occasionally. 🙂🆒😃 I don’t care if they annoy people. I like both “Cavemen” and “Carpoolers.” I’m an atheist, but not annoying about it. I respect other people’s beliefs. I have never heard of most of the obscure (to me) musicians people discuss in Cafe Society. My opinion of the best albums of 2007 is limited to the Eagles and John Fogerty. If it isn’t mainstream, I’m clueless about it. ---

I don’t like Starbucks not because of any eco/socio/political thing, but because I think their coffee tastes burnt. Besides, the only place I get coffee outside of work or my home is a coffee shop owned by an old friend. So I buy his coffee instead. While I don’t really like Wal-Mart as a store (far too many stupid people, both as customers and employees), I have no problem shopping there for things. I believe that with very few exceptions, people that have problems with controlling their weight or drug use or gambling or drinking are not addicted, but are instead weak and lack self-control. This firm belief comes from watching friends and family members fall prey to these supposed “addictions”. I have given “Arrested Development” and “Scrubs” more than enough chances to amuse me, so I will no longer watch that dreck. ---

If you’re fat, it’s your own damn fault and no one else’s. Don’t blame your “addiction,” it’s not your hormones/glands fault\*, it’s not society’s fault for shoving food at you, it’s not the manufacturer’s fault for putting high fructose corn syrup in everything, it’s YOUR fault. Now, that being said, plenty of people have no problem being overweight/fat, and fine, good for you, I’ve got nothing against you simply because you’re overweight. I do get pissed at the people who use the above as excuses for why they are fat or why they can’t lose weight. It’s a simple formula. If calories in \> calories out, you gain weight. If calories in \< calories out, you lose weight. No matter what your addiction, society, or your hormones do, you can’t get around that at all. \*With regards to hormones and glandular problems, I admit that _certain_ conditions can make it easier to gain weight/harder to lose weight, but you still cannot gain weight from nothing, and not everyone who claims a hormone problem actually has one. I have no way of knowing who’s actually been diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome. ---

Also, although I consider myself to be smart – at least based on my edumacation and the battery of IQ and aptitude tests I’ve taken since I was a child – I can’t get into threads like [this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=447843). To me, it’s little different than the [pretentious mental masturbation of postmodernists](http://groups.google.com/group/alt.postmodern/topics?start=2150&sa=N). ---

I never open the cute kitten or puppy threads. I don’t hold animals in higher regard than most humans. I like them, but no worship. The almost endless dissection of moderator decisions annoys the hell outta me! The grammar police on the boards annoy me more than anything else here. (see second to last word of above statement) Someone can post about a personal tragedy and an asshole will correct their grammer instead of responding to the post. ---

To quote the great “Weird Al” Yankovic, “My rims never spin, to the contrary/You’ll find that they’re quite stationary”. Yup, white and nerdy. It’s got a spoiler and a sunroof, though, and it tells you the direction you are facing, the temperature, and what song is playing on the radio, so you’d think it would be a Doper’s dream ride, but no cool Doper drives a big American car. Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book ever. Whenever I start to hate humanity, I read it and it gives me hope. Old coffee, fresh coffee, expensive coffe, cheap coffee, I care more about the cup it is in and that it is made with actual coffee than anything else. I really, really miss psuedotron ruber ruber. I think der trihs is exceedingly passionate and not completely full of shit, just very, very tired and yet still valiantly trying to make sense of a world that doesn’t make much sense to him. I may disagree with him (on occasion) but I grok where he’s coming from. (If he is indeed a he and even if he’s a she) I don’t think people continuing to get fatter and fatter is a good thing. It depresses me greatly when I see fat people with fat children. Yes, my husband is overweight, I’m underweight and I know why both of us are the way we are. He eats too much, I eat too little. I absolutely think that we as a society are overmedicated. I am pretty damn sure that ADHD isn’t even something 1% of the people medicated for it have. I don’t think it is an accident that we are overweight, overmedicated and can’t pay attention. I find great debates utterly tedious. I’m a pretty fundamentalist atheist and on the whole, I don’t really give a crap about discussing it OR religion. While I do consider my child to be utterly mesmerizing, beautiful and amazing, I also realize that I am expected to be biased. I also despise the one-up-manship of parenting. My kid runs around with a bucket on her head and likes banging into things with her head. Yay her! I like this place in spite of the expected pile-ons, insufferable bores and whiny babies. So far, I think Terry Pratchett is just Ok. ---
