The owner says the car can’t be fixed, but that’s not true - Ferrari will be able to rebuild it for him. They’ve fixed Enzos that have been through a lot more than that…

There seems to be something inherently wrong in the very nature of this car, not from a technological standpoint but from the fact that it is a victim of its own circumstance. By being prohibitively expensive, it is only available to a very small set of people with the means to own one, and it’s these people who have proven over time to be completely inept when it comes to driving. I know it wasn’t Griffin’s car, but it seems to happen rather often that some high-profile dousche gets behind the wheel of an Enzo, whether at a track or on the streets, and it ends up destroyed. I know Ferrari can fix up these Enzos without much problem, but you can fix up any bashed up car with enough money. All the materials are easily replaced on these supercars, but the fact is they shouldn’t have been handing over what is essentially a street-legal formula racer to someone who isn’t experienced enough to drive it at its limits on a track. But that’s the thing, this wasn’t even a track, it was a slalom course in a parking lot. Hey, let’s hand over a million dollar car to a celebrity to go around a set of $20 cones positioned fifteen feet from a concrete barrier. Brilliant! What can possibly go wrong? That was absolutely not the right venue for that car, at all. It was born on and belongs on a race track. It’s like giving a power tool to a monkey and setting him loose in an antique store.
At the very least, these “charity event celebs” should get to drive around freely to get a feel for a car, no matter how high-performance it is, before slinging into a turn at 50mph, so that they know what its limits are. I’m no huge fan of the Enzo but it is a technological masterpiece and I think it’s a shame that celebrities and business executives are the ones who always end up making a media spectacle after wrecking them.
Eddie Griffin sucked before this, and now he sucks tenfold. Maybe they should’ve just given him an Escalade with some 46" blayng-blayng diamond-studded chrome spinners so he could drive over the cones at 5 mph big pimpin’ style, and there wouldn’t have been a problem. They should take the cost out of his next movie paycheck, if and when that ever happens.

I could be wrong here, and I’m open to corrections if I am, but it was my understanding that you couldn’t just buy an Enzo. I think that you have to have owned a certain number of Ferraris and prove some driving ability before you can be sold one.
Those are the Enzo rules - not the law. You can’t just show up with a shit-ton of money and buy an Enzo. You have to show up with a shit-ton of money _and_ meet the criteria to buy an Enzo.

That may be true if you’re buying direct from Ferrari, but what about a transfer of title from one owner/collector to another, or an estate sale of some kind? I can’t imagine such a “rule” would be enforcable in those cases.

The only interesting thing here is that, apparently, some morons spend $1.5 million on a car. I’m not sure that paranoid schizoprenia isn’t less pathological than that.
I’ve never heard of Eddie Griffin. I gather this wouldn’t be a story if he’d run a Corolla of a cliff. The car’s the story. That’s kind of interesting, too.
