"Comical OCD pattern of argumentation" is a personal insult? Really?

That may be how you plan on using notes and warnings on the message board you are planning on starting but that is not how it’s used here. There are no bright lines as to what will cause a warning and what will bring on a note or instruction. It is up to the judgement of the mod and the totality of the circumstances. Despite the jokes about jackbooted mods I doubt many here would like more bright line rules.

Sure, thanks. Actually on the boards I moderate, we pretty much only kick out spamsters. But they are small and for specific audience.

You likely have a lot of that to content with also, I’d guess.

If they are for Brony Furries who like to wear mayonnaise would you mind divulging that web message board? You could PM me if you’d like.

No, sorry, not for Bronies. One is for original D&D and the other for Disneyland.

I believe that this whole thread illustrates the inherent problems with the “attack the post, not the poster” rule.

That’s a weird definition of what a “bright line rule” is. We’re not talking about adding a new rule that will automatically require punishment.

People do in fact want clear rules they can easily follow without getting in trouble. Just look at the number of ATMB threads that talk about inconsistency in moderation (especially in regards to GD/Elections). That sort of thing is clearly something people want.

I don’t see anything wrong with saying that, if it’s a judgement call, it would be better err on the side of a Note instead of a Warning. It’s how all the best moderators on this board do their thing–including you, actually. You can always give a Warning later if it’s warranted.

The only thing I can see that a Warning accomplished that a Note might not have is this thread. wolfpup seems to be a reasonable guy who did not need a punishment to get him back in line. I envy his ability to respond this well to a punishment he doesn’t think he deserves. It makes me livid.

And of course y’all can do what you want. But why can’t people like DrDeth and John Mace and me say what we think would have been better?

Oddly Czarcasm wasnt even Noted for http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=19630673&postcount=183

Its 11 days after the fact. Any reason to bring this up now?

any reason not to?

Apart from being snitchy?
