The Lockhorns: Why is an unhappy and abusive couple supposed to be funny? (though in all honesty, I have to agree with Leroy about Loretta’s hairstyle) Family Circus: What’s up with the thick ankles? Garfield: Just Not Funny! Cathy: This strip has been annoying me more and more and more lately. Yeah, the neurotic single woman thing was kinda funny for a while, but she’s gotta be pushing 40 by now. You would think that she would stop shopping in that stupid store with that pushy saleswoman. You would think that she would just mail order her swimsuits from Lands’ End. You would think that she would stop participating in every fad that comes along. Basically, you would think that she would know better by now! But nooooo… ---

Every time the paper has a questionaire, I vote them lowest, but they always drop something I really like. **Marmaduke** Same “joke” every day- When you have an ill-trained dog, all your friends and neighbors suffer. **Mary Worth** **Rex Morgan, MD** **Peanuts** partial blockout **Rose is Rose** when the guardian angel appears. **The Lockhorns** same 5 jokes every Sunday. ---

**Cathy** I loved that one for years, when she had people/ office/ boyfriend jokes. The bathingsuit/ shopping jokes are all the same. And every panel is now a paragraph of text. ---

I glance over **Family Circus** and **Marmaduke** , just because I wonder if there is EVER even ONE funny strip once in a while, but I almost never actually find one. I keep hearing stories about how hard it is to become syndicated, and how all the good cartoonists tried such-and-such-number of syndicates before getting approved, and to never give up, etc. What totally baffles me is how the hell these piece-of-shit comics ever even got started, when there are other, much much better comics out there, not getting published! Oh, I also hate **Sylvia** , and **Cathy** , and any soap opera comics, but I don’t read 'em. I just skip over them, because I’ve lost all hope that they’ll ever produce anything funny. ---

I regularly skip Sylvia due to it being badly scripted, as well as unfunny, pointless, and annoyingly liberal. I read Zippy only when there’s little enough text to make it not be any more of a waste of time than skipping it. Other than that, I regularly read all the comics in the Boston Globe, regardless of their overall merit. I always read Doonesbury, for example, even if it is wordy and unfunny, as well as that liberal thing I mentioned before. I also read Mallard Fillmore, even though it is just as annoying in its conservativeness. And Garfield hasn’t been funny for at least ten years, but I still read it. ---

I dislike the soap opera strips, but I accidentally got hooked on Rex Morgan M.D., when his wife/fiancee was kidnapped and stuck in the desert for a few weeks. I kept asking myself. “Why am I reading this. I hate this strip.” Don’t read it anymore…thank goodness. ---

I still read everything on the comics page. Whether it’s a stinker or not. I read ‘Sylvia’ in the magazine ‘Comic Relief’ (real cool mag, by the way). It’s a lot easier to digest when you can sit and read through them all at once… easier to keep up with the continuity, and the relationships between the characters. And ‘Family Circus’… well, as I said in the earlier ‘Comics I Hate’ thread, I play sniper… turn the circle into a sniper’s crosshairs, and see who you hit. Try to hit everyone, including Barfy, Sam, and the cat. It’s the only way I’ve found to stay entertained by that strip. 😉 ---

The only time I ever get near Sylvia is when the cats are holding up signs in order to talk. I used to read Ernie until it became The Pirahna Club. Man, talk about the same old jokes being recycled! ---

Family Circus, of course. But, man, Blondie sucks!! It always gives me a feeling of impending doom: no, please don’t use such a tired, old, cliched non-joke. Please don’t do it. I can feel it coming. While I hate repetition, ‘Family Circus’ is sooooo old, and yet I STILL read it, I’m just not sure why, maybe I’m actually quite a masochist at heart. Also, ‘For Better Or Worse’ it’s usually for the worse, but I still read it too. ---

Most of the above, and there’s one that the _Chattanooga Free Press_still runs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in any other paper, anywhere, but everytime I’m at mom and dad’s on a Sunday, I read it. \*They’ll do it every time[/]. Absolutely horrible. ---

Cathy I hate the most though. When she first came out she reminded me (and still does) of the annoying screwed up women I was dating. To make matters worse, one of the last serious girlfriends I had before I met my wife was actually named Cathy! And she was just as screwed up, overweight, and dopey as the comic strip!
