The Guinness advert starting with three men drinking Guinness at a bar, then cycling backwards through man’s evolution all the way back to a fish like creature taking a sip of water from a pond. ---

The BMW SUV ad with the smokin’ hot chick drivin’. Man, I could wreck the back seat of that thing with her! I think she is the same chick in the Dockers ad, where she and some schmuck dude try to jump each others bones and end up hooking up in the street. I’m pure class, baby! ---

Don’t advertisers do series of adverts these days? I remember the Nescafe soap opera; I remember the Smash ads; I remember the hilarious ‘Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet’ ads; I remember the Qualcast vs Flymo ad war (headline: ‘Lawnmower manufacturers sharpen blades’). ---

My favorite is a scene with a drill sergeant and a line of recruits he’s inspecting. One of the recruits has a stain on his t-shirt and the drill sergeant just gesticulates madly and pontificates at length. His funniest line is “Are you tryin’ to disrespect your country, your mama, and me?” (Or something similar). During his rant, another recruit surreptitiously hands a laundry bleach pen to the stained recruit who hurriedly gets rid of the stain. When the drill sergeant finishes his rant, he turns to the recruit who asks, “What stain, sir?” The stain is gone, and the drill sergeant finishes off with, “Ah, who’d they send me, Houdini?” You had to be there, it was quite a performance. ---

Hm, I like the cavemen ad. I like the barbarian Capital 1 ad. I like the cell ad where they are torturing the guy by using up all his minutes. I really liked the old Xerox ad with the monks and the copier…and the one of the russian beauty pagent with every babushka wearing the same outfit. The one shot superbowl amiga commercial rocked. ---

My current favorite, not seen all that often, is The FED-EX one with the Employment Interviewer and the pirate who can only say “ARRGGHH!”. You gotta’ see the employment guy’s “takes” to really appreciate the humor. Speaking of takes… in an otherwise somewhat forgettable Domino’s commercial, there’s the kid with the headset taking phone orders. He’s explaining to the customer the “5-5-5” deal for 3 medium pizzas, 3 different toppings, so everyone can have what they really want. The look on his face when the customer must be saying “I Love You” and he’s forced to respond “I love you, too, sir…” is priceless. ---

I love the Peyton Manning ones, as well. Add to that the John Elway one that’s been running recently - “John Elway is a lonely guy…” However, the reason I find that one funny might have more than a few personal reasons: My husband’s mother, who died when he was only 12 - used to hate John Elway - everything about him! She didn’t trust him because of his _big teeth_. This tickles me to no end. So whenever I see this advert, I tell Matt that somehow, somewhere, his mother was cheering that John Elway is a “lonely guy”. Another reason is because I actually frequently wear a John Elway jersey that belongs to my husband. He never wears it, it was a gift from his father many years ago. It doesn’t make sense - neither of them _like_ John Elway. And they both know it. _We’re Seattle fans_! John Elway has made life hell for our boys in the past! There should be no John Elway love here. But I wear the jersey around the house to do housework and stuff. And when my husband comes home, I like to say, “Hi, I’m John Elway. I had enough chalky tabs to line a field with.” Ultimately, I don’t hate the guy. But it tickles me to no end to see him acting all sad in those adverts. I like to pretend I hate him. But he makes me laugh. Don’t tell my MIL. Anyway. The Geico ads with the cavemen - specifically the one where the guy takes them out to dinner at fancy restaurant and apologises for not realising they were “still around”. It slays me every time that one says, “And I don’t have much of an appetite, thanks.” Then hands back the menu and turns his attention back to the guy, giving him the “attitude” stare. Perfect. 😃 (\<— hey, check out those teeth! It’s John Elway!) ---

That was just a really solid ad campaign. 🙂 The new ones they have with the Gecko talking to the other lizards is great. They all scatter at exactly the right moment. ---
