At least it’s not a ham-handed attempt to sell you something.

I laugh at the jingle that goes, “Round here nothin’s better than eatin’ Subway”. You poor bastards, perhaps you should move!

I absolutely hate ANY Tim Conway Jr. commercial on KFI. They play his spots so often I had to stop listening to their live streaming and switch to podcasts of the shows instead.

Even worse is Fred Thompson’s shilling for the same product, which rose to popularity due to [his successful lobbying](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Thompson#Lobbyist) for deregulating the Savings and Loan industry.

The most annoying are those utterly evil free credit report dot com ones. Yes! Use this commercial one that forces you to sign up for a service that is harder to quit than the Mafia instead of [the REAL free one](https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp)!

Wow, that’s really bad.

There are these commercials, I think they’re selling a car or insurance or something, that for the life of me I do not understand at all. One of them has like this teen/young man with presumably his father and a guy with a clipboard, and the clipboard guy is rattling off statistics or something, and at some point he tells the young man to keep his grades up. From start to finish it is utterly incomprehensible to me.

The Kay Jewelry commercials are in a special class of annoying, but in addition to their grating slogan, the Leo diamond spots irritate me with their “certified to be visibly brighter” line. Visibly brighter than what? A dark closet? A cloudy day? The inside of a cow?

About sums it up for me. Good thing I don’t watch much TV and God bless that mute button.

esp annoying are ones that feature that unbelievably annoying needle-skipping-across-the-LP thing or anyone screaming.

There’s been a new slate of these which are even more debased than ever before. I’m not sure what hinky hijinks at the beach has to do with protecting my credit rating, but whatever…

That fucking guy with that annoying goddamned voice on the Allstate commercials, especially the ones where they dub in his voice. Also those idiotic “State Farm is there” commercials. The car commercial where the salesman and some customer exchange staccato verbal jabs that make no sense at all; shut the fuck up, already.

The AT&T commercial where people talk about how they couldn’t _possibly_ live without this particular internet service because their lives are so demanding.
“We have a toddler!”
“There are two kids in our house!!”
Yes, those situations make it impossible to use regular internet and cable. They must be amazed the human race survived thus far.

There’s a commercial for Colgate where they show all the germs left behind by an unnamed rival toothpaste compared to Colgate. Except in fine print it says the images are simulated.
So they’re using made up pictures of imaginary product to sell their stuff?

I think it was State Farm that had the usual cast of misfit insurance agents dressed up as the Avengers though, and that one was hilarious.

> I’ve just this weekend seen the Proctor and Gamble “Proud sponsors of mom” ad, which chaps my ass on two levels. Not all athletes have moms to begin with, and dads are perfectly capable of buying toothpaste and dropping kids off at practice.

Not only that, but most parental support goes just a little bit beyond buying the right household cleansers. Of all the things my mom did for me, her ability to buy me toothpaste doesn’t exactly rate very high on the list. It sort of cheapens the whole thing. And maybe it’s just me, but I get a real sense that some of those moms seem to be forcing their kid to pursue sports so that they can live through their glory.

It’s like “Tide! The laundry soap for overbearing, pushy mothers everywhere!”

There are very few products that warrant the use of a sappy song in an ad campaign. I can’t think of any at the moment.

I can think of one - Folgers coffee - that most definitely doesn’t benefit from a sappy song. Not if it’s sung by Aaron Neville or by a country star, or about New Orleans or about wherever the country star has found himself away from home. And especially not 20 times a night during baseball games. There is nothing about sports or night time that puts me in the mood for a sappy song about coffee!!
