**vivalostwages** , I don’t live there anymore (wish I did), but yup, I grew up there!
Hey, while we are on the subject of commercials, what is with that series of ads that says “chewie stops the chatter”. Now, some of them are pretty funny, but still - the premise is basically: fill your child’s mouth with our sweet chewy food and they will shut up.

That seems a hell of a message to be spreading to Mr and Mrs Average Parent.

Okay, for old candy bar ads, how about ads for **Marathon** candy bars, that last “a good long time” (and aren’t sold anymore).

Or the old “Whatchamacallit” ads. Move over, Abbot and Costello! The joke is, the candy bar is called “Whatchamacallit!” Confusion and hilarity ensue!

Hubba Bubba ads with the “gum fighter”?

And while not candy, how about “Have a notha nutter butter peanut butter sandwich cookie - by Banisco!” _“Nabisco!”_

Magikist carpet cleaners.

I suspect that they used the original word based prefix because it had been part of their advertising for so long that it had become identified with the company. Just like the [Magikist lips signs](http://condor.depaul.edu/~tseneca/signs/lips.htm) which used to be all over Chicago.

I seem to recall former 76er Darryl Dawkins doing one of these, and the jingle was “before I slam my gorilla dunkies, I get the eaties for my Wheaties.” Dawkins had names for all his slam dunks, and the “Gorilla Dunk” was one of them.

Anyone remember the commercials of **Linkets**?

Kind of a Lego rip off. I always liked the song. Something about Linket kids building a better world.

Man I loved that commercial.

Every one would be in love with me!

And, last but not least, the chorus from the Slinky song:

I loved the old Little Cesar ads…

My favorite one’s premise was that other chains might give you an extra box with your pizza, and the customer asks “What do I do with an extra box?” The guy behind the counter is the very weird Air Traffic Controller from Airplane! who suggests origami…“It’s a pteradactyl! Caw! Caw!”

That and the one Pop-Tart spot a few years back: “Dear Bob, Wer’re hot for you, love, Pop-Tarts” with the catchy music…

What rolls down stairs
alone or in pairs
all over your neighbor’s dog?
Great for a snack,
sits on your back
Log! Log! Log!

It’s LOOOOG, It’s LOOOOG
it’s big, it’s heavy, it’s wood
It’s LOOOOG, It’s LOOOOG
it’s better than bad – it’s good!

C’mon & get your log,
You’re gonna love it log!

(Log, from BLAMMO!)

(Ok, not a real commercial, but something I remember fondly!)

BTW, thanks Lurkmeister…I wasn’t expecting anyone else to remember that!

You must have been watching the same Saturday morning cartoon lineup I was watching. 🙂

Of course! How could anyone who lived in southern California some time during the seventies or eighties _not_ remember those?

We have a similar thing here in north Texas and Oklahoma - a fellow named Larry Battison (“Battison AutoCenter, Downtown Duncan [Oklahoma]”). I will remember his company’s phone numer 'til the day I die… not to mention the guy in the panda suit waving and the flashing hazard lights!

… but this is about my _favourite_ commercials, not the ones I loathe, right?
I absolutely love the Oregon Lottery commercial that’s a reality-TV show parody: “Who Can Spend 30 Days in a Trailer With Mr. T?”

“T need a foot rub! Who gonna give Mr. T a foot rub?”
Another favourite of mine is THQ’s ad for the _Evil Dead_ video game where the guy trys to get his hand replaced with a chainsaw like Ash in _Evil Dead_.

“Help! Bruce Campbell’s chasing me!”

> _Beadalin mentioned:_
> **For recent commercials, I have yet to see a Snickers “Not going anywhere for awhile?” ad that doesn’t make me giggle. Especially the panda one.**

“That’s great, but who are the Chefs?”

ESPN has had some good commercials over the years, too.

“Awww…Great googily moogily!”

At least I think that’s what the Chiefs AKA Chefs groundskeeper said when the player pointed out his mistake.
