Yay! Community’s back and so is [del]Dr. Banana[/del] Rich. It was a good episode tonight, although I was :dubious: at the idea of a two semester anthropology class. They could have easily shown that the group was taking another higher level anthropology class or maybe physical anthropology or even archaeology. It’s also possible that Duncan is such a lame teacher that they need two semesters to get through material which normally takes one semester. At this point though, I’m probably giving this more thought than the writers. Shirley’s husband was surprisingly sweet. The idea of a Shirley/Chang baby still creeps me out however. They faked me out with Jeff’s declaration to Rich. I was :dubious: then :D. Hope we’ll see Rich’s facade break a little in the coming weeks. Thoughts? ---

The first half of the season had so little to do with the actual class that it’s not like they used up any material. There’s still plenty of stuff to mine if they decided to do class-centric material. I’m becoming a fan of Donald Glover. Troy isn’t the best character - he’s actually sort of generic - but Glover invariably nails his lines perfectly. The whole “and the pumpkins die, and children take off their costumes…” stuff was awesomely obliviously creepy. I like the direction they’re taking Chang. If they’re going to keep him as a peer of the group (and not a teacher) then they need to go full Meg route and just abuse him endlessly. ---

Damn I missed it. I put it in my DVR so I won’t miss it again, but for this episode I hope I can watch it on Hulu. ---

I liked this one. I knew at the end it wouldn’t be Annie at the door but I thought it might be Chang and this was Jeff’s Rom Com cliche way of inviting him into the group. It is interesting they are letting such a serious story grow from the silliness of the zombie episode. ---

Solid episode. Best moment was Pierce’s quip: “When? Where?.. How?!” Troy & Abed in the Morning is great too. Donald Glover cracks me up. Like **SenorBeef** said, his delivery is perfect. ---

Overall I really liked the episode, but I thought the last bit with Jeff and Rich was a bit odd. The timeline seems off. Shirley said she is eight weeks pregnant, which Troy and Pierce calculated to be Halloween. That would put this episode at Christmas, but it’s set at the start of the spring semester, so it’s mid-January. Shirley should be 11-12 weeks pregnant. ---

But you could see Troy and Pierce doing mental arithmetic before saying “Hallowe’en!” Of course given the characters in question, it’s entirely possible they just made identical math errors. ---

Loved the ending scene. When Jeff took off into the rain, seemingly on his way to Annie, I thought, “Are they really going to be that cliche?” Of course, I should have known immediately they weren’t, but I did realize before he got to Rich’s place that they were going to surprise us somehow. I wonder how they will carry this forward? Will Jeff drop the cynicism and try to emulate Rich’s smarmy genuineness? ---

I think the episode is supposed to bet set right at the start of January (some schools do go back that early). I’m wondering if the NBC shows thought they were going to be back earlier, because 30 Rock and The Office both seemed to be set right after New Years. ---

Once again I missed the nuance. The sweater thing went right past me. I confess though that I don’t give the show my full attention (I usually catch it on Hulu while I’m programming on Fridays.) I wasn’t surprised too much at the end - I didn’t predict that he would be at the door of the good doctor, but the show never goes for the obvious cliche and so I knew he would not be at Annie’s door.
