# Community and Pierce Hawthorne

What did everyone think of Pierce Hawthorne as the show went on? In my opinion, he started out okay but somewhat backward, but then he turned into this evil curmudgeon. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the later seasons (except for 4), because Chevy Chase knew how to make evil entertaining.

From what I’ve heard, he started off as Pierce Hawthorne and ended up as Chevy Chase.

It was that simple. It happens a lot in sitcoms. In the case of Pierce, neither Chevy nor the writers had to work very hard.

And he was the last to realize it. But he did eventually, which is why he’s the only cast member to cut ties and decline further involvement with potential projects related to the show. Not that they miss him terribly, of course.
