If any proof was needed, this thread shows that being a child is a highly local affair. So:  
Winnetou, by Karl May  
Struwwelpeter, by Heinrich Hoffmann  
Max und Moritz, by Wilhelm Busch

And in Spanish anything published by the Editorial Bruguera, be it comics or abridged classic children books (Salgari, Verne, more Karl May, many whose names I have forgotten…).
