Company says my SS# doesn't belong to me?

Perhaps they entered your number or a previous customer’s number incorrectly so that they now look the same? I once had my mortgage company, after about a year or more with them, send me a letter that I had falsified my SSN or something because the number they had for me didn’t exist. Someone had gone into my information and apparently deleted some of the numbers, I think they were either retooling their computer files or had lost some information in a computer error and had to reenter it. It was the Garbage in/Garbage out effect. I found older documents that had the number correct and sent it to them and told them they were complete and total idiots. They realized their error and corrected it.

I still find that irritating. It’s like they technically give you a report, and it’s good information…but that one little critical bit that everybody but you sees for free you can’t see. Oh well.

What makes you think anyone else gets your credit score for free?
