Competencey Standards for Teachers=Discrimination?

Quick post here. I received my Master’s in teaching from the U of WI River Falls (aka Cow College, Silpo Tech, or Moo U). All but one of my education profs had spent years as public school teachers; most of them continued to work part-time in public schools. We received very hands-on knowledge and practical training. Could it have been better? Sure? But to imply that all the training can be done on the job in teaching seesm a bit like saying that we could do the same for pilots, doctors, mechanics, etc.

Maybe instead of standardized tests, we need tougher internal standards that are made public so that those who go to better schools (in the sense of turning out better teachers) have an advantage over those who don’t.

Yikes! Time to get ready for class!
