When we wanted to listen to music, we had to put these things into our ears with a cord connecting them to our mp3 players. That’s what they called them in those days. Or we plugged them into these things called speakers. Of course, we also had the Bluetooth back then, too. But the point is, we had to listen with our ears. None of this downloading things into your brain right from the cloud like you kids do today.
When I was a kid, you only died once. People who died stayed dead. None of this cloning and rapid growth process.
In my day, there were a lot more countries than there are now, and sometimes they were not at war with each other over trivial slights and contrived affronts and imaginary threats. And the countries at war tried not to kill any more civilians than necessary.
There was fresh water, practically free. Food was grown on plants in the ground in places where there was no concrete or desert. Some people didn’t work, if there was nothing productive to be done, but they were still allowed to have water and food and even dignity, which is when people allow you to feel OK about yourself, even if you are not officially correct. Life was very dangerous. People were allowed to have things like knives and hammers in their houses, and could wander around without their sterile exoskeletons on.
People could travel just about anywhere they wanted to go, whenever they pleased, and a lot of people actually went to other continents just for visiting and sightseeing. People were allowed to say what they thought, and to talk to strangers. And there was still an Internet, that people could use to explore many ideas, not just the correct ones. Words alone, without pictures, were comprehensible to people, who had sufficient attention spans to visualize in their own minds based on words. That required many years of practice. There were several languages, and some people could not understand each other.
Tough? It was freaking fantastic! Gas was under 30 cents a gallon, you could get a fair used car for a couple hundred bucks (couple weeks pay), you could hump just about anyone or anything willing and not get anything a few shots couldn’t clear up.
Of course, then the Democrats took over and screwed everything up for the next 60 years but ------ . Be glad they got outlawed in 2020 otherwise ---------.

I had to wait years to read the last few Harry Potter books.

It used to snow as far south as New York and Chicago, and people still had to go outdoors when there was snow. Some people had go to work when it snowed, and my dad told me that in his day, kids had to go to school, even if it snowed a little bit. Every year, unauthorized weather killed thousands of people.
Some nights, we could see the moon. Once, on a vacation trip, we went so far from the city that we could see the stars, which was really scary, because we didn’t have defense systems against attack from space-based terrorists yet. My dad told me he saw a shooting star once.
TEENAGERS were allowed to have gonads, without a license. Yeah, it made them jerks.
