I haven’t been on this message board for ages (been overseas and all that) but I had to come write hear to distract myself for a while. See, I’m waiting for the cops to show up. Yup… All my housemates are away for the long weekend and I’ve just been out dancing and come home and there’s stuff missing from the house. Stupid stuff too! All the pooters seem to be intact, the CD’s are there, the DVD’s are there but there are 2 pillowcases missing off my bed and my CD player and speakers and about $50 in change and Michael’s mag-light. The back door is unlocked and I can’t bring myself to look in the other rooms as I’m on my own. I’m now completely freaked out and writing this as much to distract myself as for anything else. eep… I can’t stop shaking. ---

The cops have been and gone. They found where they got in and have done the dusting for prints and found nothing. I’ve now got to ring the agent to try and have them fix up stuff. And try and stop shaking. ---

I am sorry. ☹ Sounds like they used the pillowcases as loot sacks. Have your landlord install window guards, and when you all go out again, leave a couple of lights and a radio or TV on. ---

I’ve just discovered that they also got my jewellery bag. My Mum’s pearls. My Grandma’s necklaces that I loved. I don’t have any idea of the current value, but they were worth a fair bit when they were bought and now they’re gone. Now I’m really upset. ---

The household has insurance as far as I am aware. It’s my sister’s place and she’s talked about insurance claims before. It’s just the jewellery that I’m pissed off at now. Some of it was 50+ years old. And to what extent the jewellery will be covered, I don’t know. There’s been quite a few robberies around here lately apparently. I hope the bastards who did this buy adulterated drugs and die horribly! Why can’t I stop shaking? ---

Do you have any pics of the jewelery? Maybe tomorrow you should make the rounds to area pawn shops with pictures or a description, and tell them it is stolen and to call the cops if someone comes in to pawn them. I’d be shaking, too! ---

I’ve managed to get onto a friend who isn’t drunk or asleep and she’s going to come over and be with me. I’ve added the jewellery to the list of stuff that the cops have but it’s really not likely to show up. I’ve also just had to tell my Mum that it’s gone. My sister was thinking about wearing one of the strings of pearls at her wedding. I’ve got to wait to hear from the agent about changing locks etc Really not a good thing to come home to… Up until that point, I’d had a fabulous night. ---

I’ll second the pawn shop suggestion. Enlist some friends who are familiar with your jewelry and other stuff to help you keep an eye on the various pawn and junk shops in your area (if Australia has them; do they?) for the next several days. Sounds like everything they stole - except maybe the Maglite - is stuff that brings a decent price at a pawn shop. DVDs and CDs only bring a few bucks apiece, and as for computers and other big expensive equipment, I imagine that might set off a shopkeepers radar and lead to penetrating questions about where it came from. Not to mention it’s tough to cram a desktop PC into a pillowcase. Thieving little crack-addled shitbums. Don’t worry, someday karma will come and bite them in the ass with big pointy teeth. ---

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went out tonight to the last night of comedy festival to see a show and maybe have a bit of a dance. Partly to prove to myself that they haven’t won by really damaging who I am, partly as distraction activity. I’ve just come home in tears. The show was good, but just before it, I fell in the bar and hurt my ankle and my hand. That makes 2. Anyone want to guess what might happen as a third? I don’t want to sleep in my bed tonight. I think I’ll sleep on the couch. I’ve had about 3 hours sleep since 10am yesterday (it’s now ~11pm) and I’m trying to stop crying. Bastards. ---

It happened to us a fair while back except we didn’t have insurance. ☹ If the thieving scum can’t sell it to a pawn shop they might try online with sites like eBay. ---

**Kayeby** I saw Adam Hills to try and make the world better again. This year I was trying to take it easy with the shows so I ended up seeing only about 25? **Equipoise** the cops said that this was an opportunist kind of this in honour of the Easter long weekend. Apparently we just got lucky and this place looked empty enough for them to have a go. They don’t think anyone will be back _crosses fingers_ And so far, we haven’t unearthed any pics of the jewellery ☹ At least some of it might be distinctive enough from descriptions to be identified. At least now other people are home and I’ve washed all my sheets so I can sleep in my bed tonight. ---

Ah, Adam Hills - my sister loves him! But she went to see Danny Bhoy and I saw Ed Byrne. Who knows, we might have unknowingly passed each other last night. 🙂 Ever since our burglary my parents have taken to leaving a couple of lights on in the house and sometimes the TV or radio to make it seem more occupied. **Phaeton** , I’m so sorry to hear about the burglary! I know just how you feel - our place was broken into just a couple of days after Christmas a few years ago! The loss of family jewelry is the worst! Good for you, cleaning those sheets! Our thieves had thrown my underwear all over the floor, looking for hidden loot, and I had to wash all of it before I could wear it again. They’d entered thru the windows so I drove long screws in the frames to feel secure. All’s not lost, though - we lived in a small town & it turned out that the criminals (who were from out of town) STUCK AROUND and tried to sell stuff to the stores who’d been notified of the theft! How dumb is that! Perhaps your thieves will be similarly stupid. We got most of our stuff back - albeit unclean. I really hope you get lucky that way! I found our thieves really insulting, too - they took all of my cubic zirconia (real mental giants) but didn’t steal ONE of my paintings!
