::checking out Jason’s Conan pics on IMDB:: Yowza. He definitely doesn’t look scrawny to me. Born “Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa”, and is of Hawaiian ancestry. He’s 6’4" and has done runway modeling. Homina homina. ---

At any rate this looks like a good movie, and if they don’t take excessive liberties with the character then it should be damn good fun. Also Conan is neither a hero, nor a villain traditionally. He is probably best described as a chaotic neutral. He has been shown in all stories, original, and expanded to act heroically when it suits him, while also stealing, wenching, and generally causing a violent, disturbing fuss. The biggest thing that this trailer has gotten wrong so far is not showing any sense of humor. Conan is also a character of “gigantic mirth”, it’s part of what makes him so likeable. It always makes me laugh when folks concentrate on things like eye color, or hair color when it comes to casting. Unless someone is portraying a famous and/or historical figure, that’s needless nitpicking. The average person has no idea what Conan looks like, if you discount Arnold’s portrayal. The important thing is that the actor can convincingly portray a near-invincible warrior with, as you say, “gigantic mirth”. Admittedly, the latter has me worried about Momoa’s performance. Time shall tell. You want to worry about poor casting choice? There’s rumors out there that Tom Cruise will portray 6’5" 250-lb ex-military policeman Jack Reacher. But hey, Cruise has blue eyes just like the guy he’s going to portray. I’ll give you this much - it seems like a relatively easy thing to give him blue contacts. ---

Well, judging by the interviews I’ve seen, Momoa himself seems to be a man of “gigantic mirth,” so I imagine if there’s an opportunity to show that side of his character, he’ll take it. Just look on Youtube for any interview with him, from Stargate Atlantis onward, and you’ll see he doesn’t take himself very seriously at all.
