Very sorry to hear this. I was impressed by how well she handled the situation when she first posted about it and I have read her journal since then. She seems to have a special spirit and a lot of strength. One thing that I have heard from docs who work in palliative care is that often people who choose hospice carre end up living longer than those with the same condition who continue to seek aggressive care since continued treatment often leads to complications/infections/etc. I wish her peace and quality of however much time she has left (but then again, who ever really knows how much time they have left). ---

I’m not sure if this is something she would be interested in or not at this point, but I wanted to make sure that those of you who are in touch with her were aware that the new melanoma drug that has been in the news recently is available on a compassionate use basis. There is info at [Compassionate Use Trial for Unresectable Melanoma With Ipilimumab - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov](http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00495066) if you think this is something she would want to pursue. When she was posting about deciding to stop treatment it sounded like she had given a lot of thought to the issue of quality of life vs. the toxicity of treatment, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she had decided it wasn’t something she wanted, but since I have known some patients who decided to go back onto treatment for some time even after opting for hospice I just wanted to pass along the info. My best wishes to her. ---

I hope the bump is forgiven, I wanted anyone who might’ve subscribed to get this update. From **chique’s** sister today, via **lno** : \*Rachel’s breathing has started to change. Her breaths are shallower and she’s starting to sound congested. The Rattle. When I was talking with our Mom this morning, I could hear the nurse in the background working on her. She was giving her something to help break up the congestion and they were working on an order for oxygen to get her breathing more comfortable. I also heard the nurse saying to Rachel as she was working, “I’ve got some raspberry-flavored morphine for you too, Rachel.”That made me chuckle. If Rachel could have responded she’d have quipped, “I’d actually prefer chocolate-flavored morphine.” But she is still sleeping peacefully. Resting comfortable. No more seizures since yesterday morning. No pain. Just sleeping. Again, thank you to you all for your kindness and words of comfort. I can’t find the words to say how appreciated you all are. Love you all. Your thoughts, prayers, positive energy, whatever you muster up is so appreciated. My hope is that she remain comfortable. That she doesn’t suffer any more. And that hands of strength are holding onto our Mom as she’s vigilante beside with my amazing sister.\* ☹ Please pray or whathave you, that she and her family are at peace. ---
