Concerts nobody else here has seen

I agree.

Les Claypool auditioned to join Metallica after Cliff Burton died. That wouldn’t be compatible either.

Yeah, I saw him talking about that on some documentary, and he seemed kinda broken up about not getting the gig!

Another Playboy subscriber, I see.

I’ve seen Gong several times since the late 80s, I think.
Most recently in March on a double bill with the Ozric Tentacles at Summer hall in Edinburgh. One of the highlights was when the Ozric’s singer/flute-player Saskia joined Gong fot a couple of songs…
I haven’t seen Hillage with Gong (I would’ve but COVID cancelled the gig) but I did see him twice in the 70s.

Anyone else seen French group Magma? Saw them in 2016 at the Assembly Hall, also in Edinburgh.

And I’m not really a big Hawkwind fan but my first gig was at Our Dynamic Earth (an Edinburgh science centre) in 2018 where they did the music when two friends of mine got married! They’re both huge fans and know the band - it was great fun watching them play to around 50 people while various little kids danced at the front :grinning:
But maybe that doesn’t count as it was a private function.

I’m pretty well familiar with Magma, to the point of accumulating more live recordings than they have officially released, if you catch my drift. Haven’t had the opportunity to catch them live in person, though.

I do find the rumor about Christian Vander’s political sensibilities a bit uncomfortable, though. But I think if you want to propagate ideas, using a language you’ve invented without offering translations is a poor way to do it.

i know a few concerts here no one here besides me has ever seen or heard of …

in 1992 I was in an HS boys choir that was formed when there were a bunch of kids who needed a class we had a few concerts with 30 -40 people all relatives of the group and we sang "manly " songs like the Pirate drunken sailor song…something by Kipling a few cleaned up drinking songs … things like that

We were given an A for effort and a C+ for talent but it was fun

I only knew the basic details of the band, nothing very deep. My partner acquired a couple of their cds years ago but they don’t get played very much.
The only reason Magma played Edinburgh was because a vague aquaintance of ours decided to celebrate a major birthday and put on a gig by his favourite band! I heard that it was nowhere breaking even but it was what he wanted to do. Otherwise their tour wouldn’t have had a Scottish date.

I’ve seen Pretty Boy Floyd just this past spring. Was supposed to see Vixen on the Monsters of Rock Cruise last March, but for some reason they were cut. They are listed on next year’s cruise so I may see them then.

I’ve seen Vixen twice. One of my favorite hair bands.

Vixen was one of the openers at a Monsters of Rock show I went to. Not a fan.

Been there, done that.

I saw him sing the National Anthem at an Orioles game, if that counts.

My favorite Red Meat (by Max Cannon) cartoon has Bug-Eyed Earl saying, “I was at an antique shop”. Next panel, “they had an old, beat up rocker”. Last panel, “it was Eddie Money”.

I worked on the set of a movie in which they made a cameo. So…does seeing them mime and lipsynch to a backing track of “Get Down Tonight” count? I met KC at one point walking between the trailers. Seemed pleasant enough, though you could really tell up close that he’s had a lot of work done.

What’s really frustrating about that story is that apparently Paul McCartney had been the filmmakers’ first choice as the Surprise Wedding Reception Musician role. I’d still be in a daze decades later had that happened.

  1. I love your username. I’ve gone twice and would love to go again
  2. I’ve seen BTS a few times, including last night. Doug and the gang were awesome. The cello really helped with their playing of the entire There’s Nothing Wrong with Love album.

I saw The Romantics at a very small auditorium in San Antonio (1979?). I think it was on/off Fredericksburg Road? Does anyone remember this place?

Many people think of them as a one-hit wonder for “What I Like About You.” However, WILAY only made it to #49 US, while “Talking In Your Sleep” made it to #3 US.

They had a couple other singles that charted also.
