The condom discussion in What are your most extreme, honestly held views? has, well, excited my curiousity. (Hey, my mind wanders down many passageways). Gentlemen, would having to wear a condom deter you from wanting to have sex with a woman? Ladies, would refusal to wear a condom be a dealbreaker for a sexual encounter? ---

It’s a theoretical dealbreaker with me. Until it wasn’t. My SO has ED pretty bad. Male condoms are like trying to put a raincoat on a limp ferret, and we can’t find female condoms anywhere. So, after many attempts and frustration all 'round, we decided to go the testing-and-monogamy route instead. He’s the only one I’ve let get away with it, though. Well, except that one time with my ex when we were intentionally conceiving a child, of course. Other guys have tried, with strategies ranging from debate to whining to attempted subterfuge (caught him), and I’ve kicked 'em all out of bed for it. ---

Total dealbreaker. Even back when I was single and dating around it was a massive dealbreaker. I don’t care if you [claim to] have the printout from your doctor with medical testing results, glove it. ---

It depends if it’s a committed monogamous relationship. If so, then it’s barebacking. If not, then it’s a condom or we do other activities. ---

Male, and no condom would be a dealbreaker for me, outside of a long-term, monogamous relationship. Probably somewhere after the 6-month mark? ---

I was born in 1981. AIDS prevention talks were so prevalent in school, the very idea of having sex with a new partner without a condom on wouldn’t even cross my mind. In fact, I can recall at least one time when I was in bed nekkid with a gorgeous young lady, both aching for it, but not doing anything because no rubbers were to be found that night. So I can attest I’m not just talk on this one 🙂 ---

Back in the day, I was prepared to wear one with any sexual encounter, and did. It’s how business gets done, as they say. These days, after 16 years together, 13 of them married, 2 kids and one vasectomy, it’s safe to say that I’ll never wear one again. And we are both happy about that. ---

Until I’m having sex with a girl with whom I want to have a baby, I’m going to wrap it up every time. My last girlfriend actually complained about it, saying she couldn’t feel my essence through 1/16 of an inch of polyurethane (she’s very woo). Lucky for me that I did, since she ended up getting pregnant with the next guy three times in 2.5 years. Apparently she’s very, very fertile. ---

Male here, in the 32nd year of marriage. They’re still\* not a dealbreaker for me. It’s fun with or without, and I’m puzzled why it’s such a big deal for some guys. \*The missus requests them sometimes, as in “before-work” fun. For obvious reasons. ---

I guess I’m going to stand out like a sore… thumb here, but I hate them. It’s like having a bath with your socks on. If I’m in a LTR and we have both been tested and we are using alternate contraception, then I very much prefer not to use them.
