I’m all for rape deterrents, but I can’t imagine how traumatic it would be for a woman to insert one every day on the off chance she might get raped. ---

Yeah. That. It seems like a sad way to go through life. Though I guess in some places it is that common. Also, you just _know_ you’re going to get raped on the one day that you leave it out. ---

When I read the article, my first thought was that this might incite further violence towards the woman who is wearing it and “catches” the predator. My second thought was that rapists may choose anal penetration to avoid the potential dangers of this contraption. ☹ Clearly the answer is to arm these women to the teeth. A rapist with a booby trap on his penis can still strangle his victim to death. A rapist with a bullet in his skull, not so much. I’m having a hard time seeing the down-side to this, apart from cost. ---

I agree it sounds clever but really if a man is big and powerful enough to get close enough to a woman to rape her all that’s gonna happen if he gets hurt is to get MORE violent. Of course this assumes the rapist is already going to do the worst anyway. ---

Does anyone have a picture of one of these? Normal female condoms I’ve seen are pretty obvious; they stick out. Do these fit completely inside the woman, and if not, what’s to prevent a rapist from just pulling it out? ---

I can’t think of any possible way that this doesn’t turn a rape victim into a murder victim. Edit: unless those teeth have deadly poison on the tips. ---

Well, it’s being used in South Africa, which has a frighteningly high rape incidence. Something like 20% of men in South Africa _ **admit** _ to raping a woman in the recent past. ---
