Okay, the kitty didn’t bother me AT ALL last night. Not a peep out of her, and when I woke up she was lying next to my feet looking at me like, “Well?” YES! I had to make an emergency run to get her different litter this morning. The stuff I had on hand she didn’t like. I’ll have to transition her to it, because it’s the pine litter stuff and it’s really great, but it is quite a bit different than the usual stuff. She used it right away when I added the clay litter so I am highly relieved not to have an angry Siamese who won’t use her box in my house. ---

Ugghh… I’ve got the sick. It’s at least not **THE SICK** , but when it feels like there’s a basketball stuffed up your nose, and a bag of centipedes is crawling around your lungs going tickle-tickle-tickle all over, sick is sick. High point of yesterday was an info security seminar (Yay - a day away from the office, free breakfast and lunch, and continuing ed points!) One of the speakers was a guy who looked like Ed Begley Jr., but wasn’t. Despite a really tasty tomato bisque with lunch and the continuing ed points, there really are just so many ways to say that your C-level execs (ie: the CEO, COO, CFO, CISO, etc.) must understand the need for security and they must put their muscle and budget into it. Cutting it down to the last moment department: Our wedding rings are ordered and should arrive by this Friday. Off to forage for more of that dark brown fluid that attempts to provide substitute sleep. \ Truck batteries for **Bobbio** A snowplow for **Pie** Birthday candles for anyone that wants them And a cute hazmat response team for **Soapy** ---

Yawn. That’s pretty much it, nothing great and wonderful to report–dogs doing well, had one mini-crisis when Bear misinterpreted Pratchett walking by him as a feint at his chewy toy and he growled and snapped but the reaction he got from Himself made him Very Sorry and he’s dialled back about 85% on the food guarding behavior. We’re helping him out with that by randomly taking his bones and toys away from him, then giving them back at our leisure, and any defensive behavior with the other animals gets the toy in question removed from play for a good long while. He’s a smart puppeh, he’ll figure out tout de suite that Mom & Dad don’t allow fighting 'round these hyear parts! **Dotty,** that’s pitiful about poor HRH, I wanna slap your maid silly. Failing that, might I suggest not allowing the use of powder in future? I never used the stuff, didn’t feel sanguine about having something that fine wafting into our lungs–plus, the sicky sweet smell makes me gag. **Snowbunny,** my cat really likes the clumping stuff and it’s so easy to clean up, unlike clay litter which is gross and gets all sticky, bleargh. She’s a very pretty kitty, reminds me of a Siamese/Manx we used to have, looked just like your kitteh but with no tail. **Pugs–** _snerk_😛 Mmmmm, mudbugs… I could go for some etouffee right about now… ETA: Hands zinc tablets, centipede repellant (redundant, that!) and large vat of Elixir of Consciousness to **gotti.** Get better, you! ---

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Starbuck’s has their holiday lattes back. Peppermint mocha. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Poor HRH. Glad it’s over, **Dotty**! **Snowbunny** , you might try [World’s Best Cat Litter](http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/landingpages/wbcl-choice-is-clear.asp)(that’s its actual name, not a testimonial) or Arm & Hammer’s Natural somethingorother. I can’t find the Arm & Hammer one on their website, but they carry it at my PetsMart - it’s their natural one, not one of their clay ones. I’ve used the SwheatScoop, but it clumped so much that it stuck to the bottom of the litterbox, and I couldn’t get the clumps out. Kinda defeats the purpose. Papurr was our favorite, but they stopped making it. ☹ Anyway, we mix the World’s Best and the Arm & Hammer. Both are fine-grained - unlike the pine stuff - so the cat likes it, they clump so it’s easy to clean, and they’re flushable. The Arm & Hammer alone has too strong a pine smell (I mean a _really_ strong pine smell, and if it’s strong to me, the cat must think it’s awful.), but the World’s Best also has a kind of weird smell, so the combination seems good. I’m going to try making [Sausage, Kale, & Cranberry](http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/sausage-kale-and-cranberry-pasta-recipe/index.html)pasta for dinner. It sounds really good. I’ll post results tomorrow. Um… I think I had other stuff I was going to say, but I forgot. :o ---

I’ll switch her to the pine stuff, but I got something a lot like what she’d been using at the shelter. The clumping stuff, in my experience, goes _everywhere_. Your cat’s kicking may vary, of course! ---

Hi, everybody, I’m back! I just needed a mental vacation from hanging out online, I think – anyway, I was buried with work and feeling pretty blah, and it was just easier to go away and focus on working for a while; I do have antisocial spells now and then, and this was a good one. Not that I succeeded that well in getting that much work done, but it was a valiant effort. Anyway, yay, I have a grandkitty! (What? I don’t have any grandchildren, so I’ll take what I can get!) Yum Yum is adorable. I can’t wait to meet her. And if she’s like my Emily, it’ll only take a brief spell of mixing the traditional litter with the pine and she’ll figure out that the pine is really nice. Emily actually prefers it in pellets these days instead of powdery – she gets quite insistent that I clear out all the powder where the pine has disintegrated. But it has absolutely _zero_ smell, so we all appreciate that. My 88-year-old mother is having her other knee replaced in January, so lucky me, I get to go to Seattle and take care of her for a while afterwards. Actually, it should be quite pleasant; she’s a good patient. And I can even take my job along with me, so hopefully it won’t interfere with my life too much. In happier news, Papa Tigs and I have _finally_ booked that Alaska cruise that we’ve been wanting to take for years and years. Yay! We’re not going till September 2009, so we have plenty of time to anticipate it. Which we shall. My other piece of even more exciting news: It looks like we’ve actually managed to score tickets to one of the inaugural balls! So not only will I go down to the Mall to join the crowd for the inauguration, we can then get dressed up and go to a big fancy party. I’ve never attended an inauguration, so I am crazy excited. And possibly crazy; this inauguration will be crazy indeed! There are, rarely, good things about living in the D.C. metro area, and this is definitely one of them. So what’s been going on around here? Nelly is missing? What happened? I see there are some new faces here and some old ones returning; sheesh, leave this place for a few weeks and you people have the nerve to carry on without me! 😃 Anyway, it’s good to be back. Oh, and in response to the OP, I’m not so much a shirtaholic as a yarnaholic. My yarn stash has already outgrown my ability to knit it in the foreseeable future, and of course most new projects require yarn that’s not already in my stash. If people wouldn’t keep making and selling so many beautiful yarns, I wouldn’t have this problem! It’s all THEIR fault! 😃 ---

Hiya **Mama Tigs**. We went out and got a new tiger while you were away, too. So I stepped up to my first duty as Property Manager of Casa de la (del? **Nava** , help!) Roommates. _ **I cleaned the Everyone Else’s Bathroom.** _ (I have the master bedroom which means I get my own bath thank your deity of choice.) It took 55 minutes which is far less time than I was expecting. I cleaned everything but the _walls_. And it will **not get that nasty again.** I have decreed it. Now I have to go see if one of my e-friends has put up New Baby pictures yet. ---

Papa Tigs brought me home some _amazingly_ delicious Irish soda bread the other day from, of all places, the Shoppers Food Warehouse. They just remodeled, and are now no longer a dirty, poorly stocked store containing nothing but overstocks. I plan to insist he stops there regularly for more of that yummy bread! ---

:eek: I just finished reading that paragon of journalistic excellence known as _The Lee County Ledger_ (motto: you do it in Lee County Jawja and we _will_ print it in the paper). I was shocked, shocked I say, to learn that the Leesburg police department arrested somebody for… **DRIVING WHILE UNLICENSED OR EXPIRED!!!** I thought, in this day in age, people were responsible enough to not let friends drive while expired. That’s it! I give up! I’m layin’ in supplies and never leavin’ da cave again! It’s just too dangerous!
