I agree. Parsing the intent of the founders beyond what is stated in the Constitution is a subjective goose chase that will lead to nothing but chaos. The Founders were a very diverse bunch, and you can find support for both sides of just about any issue that can be raised, but that does not mean the Constitution should be changed on account of it. The Constitution represents the consensus that was reached only after months of spirited debate. Unless we are contemplating amending the Constitution, what any one of the founders intended is irrelevant; what is important is what the majority agreed on and what the states ratified.

Yeah, 21 years later. I’d like to know how many people have actually managed to immigrate on that basis.
I don’t know the stats but we can certainly consider changing the citizen by birth clause if it no longer serves our national interests.
