I thought I’d share this hilarious website.

> [@](#):
>
> [Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American. On Wikipedia, many of the dates are provided in the anti-Christian “C.E.” instead of “A.D.”, which Conservapedia uses. Christianity receives no credit for the great advances and discoveries it inspired, such as those of the Renaissance.](http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page)

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. But, I’ll find some more interesting bits:

Islam:

> [@](#):
>
> [Because Islam is an uncomplicated religion to live by, it is sure to continue in its popularity around the world.](http://www.conservapedia.com/Muslim)

Or Homosphere:

> [@](#):
>
> [Homosphere is a recently coined word, much like “blogosphere”. Just as “blogosphere” refers to the totality of weblogs on the internet, so homosphere is used to refer to everything on the internet having to do with homosexuality.
>
> Thus, sites like MoveOn are part of the homosphere, while good Christian sites like Conservapedia are not]([http://www.conservapedia.com/Homosphere](http://www.conservapedia.com/Homosphere)).

I’m sorry, but I don’t see the problem here. I’ve taken a gander and the articles are often poor and lacking in all but the briefest detail, but they’re free to do what they want and you’re equally free to ignore them. At least it’s open in its bias.

I looked at “evolution” on that site. It’s pretty concise. Then compare that to the entry for “creationism”. It, too, is pretty small. They’re much to small and simplistic, at least for now. Later, we’ll really have looking at it and rolling our collective eyes.

It often reads like a primary school child’s work. On Canada:

> [@](#):
>
> Canada is the second largest country in the world for it’s considerable amount of land. It was named Canada because when an explorer came to a Canadian Indian village he asked what this place was called, and they told him “Kanada”, which means village in their indian language. It borders the United States, and most of it’s population is in The more southern provinces of Canada.

On George W. Bush (in its entirety):

> [@](#):
>
> Is the president of the United States of America. Was elected in 2001, and then re-elected in 2004.

(Which asserts three simple things, of which the second is clearly false (it was 2000))

We’re also free to give them a well-deserved mocking, which is what this thread is all about. What’s the problem with that?

Apparently, they created this in response to the inherent [bias](http://www.conservapedia.com/Examples_of_Bias_in_Wikipedia) that the Wikipedia writers have.

To which I can only quote Colbert: “…reality has a well-known liberal bias!”

So they’re fighting perceived bias with bias. I hope that works out for them.

One more thing I’ve found: it contains the full text of Shakespeare’s [As You Like It.](http://www.conservapedia.com/As_You_Like_It) This is very odd in an encyclopedia: why not just give a link to one of the freely available texts of the play on the Net?

The entry for “Wikipedia” on this site includes a couple quotes which I find hilarious. The first is this:

> [@conservapedia](#):
>
> Because anyone can edit it, and because of its system of governance, it does not have standards similar to those of printed encyclopedias. For example, the balance of the content in Wikipedia inevitably represents what its contributors find interesting to write about, rather than what encyclopedias traditionally contain.

Which is presumably in contrast to the highly qualified panel of experts writing Conservapedia.

Another gem:

> [@conservapedia](#):
>
> only 10% of Americans accept evolution as it is taught in public school,(Citation Needed)

Says it all, doesn’t it?

I direct your attention to the Encyclopedia Dramatica. Google it yourself, it’s not really that safe for work.
