_Problem:_ There was a terrorist attack in France. _Conservative response:_ URGENT CRISIS! TRAVEL BAN NOW! MORE LAWS! _Problem:_ I had to press 1 for English in my own country. _Conservative response:_ URGENT CRISIS! BUILD A WALL NOW! MORE LAWS! _Problem:_ I read about a new designer drug on Facebook. _Conservative response_: URGENT CRISIS! NEED IMMEDIATE BAN ON “SQUANK”! MORE POLICE POWER! MORE LAWS! _Problem:_ Somebody wants an abortion. _Conservative response:_ URGENT CRISIS! PASS NEW ABORTION LAWS AT ANY COST! _Problem:_ 4 possible cases of in-person voter fraud in 1987 _Conservative response:_ URGENT CRISIS! PASS ANY LAW AT ALL COST _Problem:_ 500+ people shot, 50 killed, at an outdoor concert _Conservatives:_ Whoa, let’s not do anything hasty, it’s not like laws can prevent people from doing bad things. ---

Yet a man who opens fire with a machine gun into a crowd of innocent people engenders nothing more than “thoughts and prayers” and few tsk-tsks from the disgusting pile of pig shit that is our president. Monday morning I woke up and, in my uncaffeinated fog, decided to check Facebook. For the preceding 24+ hours my FB feed had been almost nothing but warm wishes and remembrances for those lost in the Oct 1, 2015 school shooting. It took me almost 10 minutes to realize all the “thoughts and prayers” glurge from everyone from my coworkers to George Takei about the mass shooting was actually about a New and Improved act of mass murder. Here we are, a day later, and I’m still having a hard time processing this: we’ve arrived at the point where this has become so common _we can’t tell them apart_. And, since this particular asshole was white, “thoughts and prayers” is all we’re going to get. ---

There was a point last year where police were shooting so many unarmed black men that I considered making a spreadsheet to avoid confusion.
