sigh Dude . . . you can stop digging now.
You know, I kinda thouight, back then, that it might be possible that dropping acid would warp my mind. But I never considered that it might warp somebody else’s mind! Far out!
South Park is the answer. Very popular, gores liberal (or Dem, at least) oxes all the time, portrays most liberals and their pet causes as either stupid or evil.
And it’s freakin’ funny.
As Stone or Parker once put it, “We hate conservatives, but we really, really hate liberals.” They’re libertarians really.
But the one political message South Park conveys consistently is not pro-libertarian or pro- anything else. It is simply that too many Americans place far too much importance on politics, that politics does not really matter enough to justify all the fuss and emotional investment. As with many things in civil discourse, I believe that’s flat wrong – at the moment – but we will always need somebody around to say it.
I’m probably just blanking, but I can’t recall when they’ve ever directly gone after a Republican figure or righty cause for an entire episode. I might remember a throwaway line about the Tea Party or Limbaugh, but nothing else really comes to mind. I wouldn’t count making fun of ignorant rednecks.
I think this fact indicates that part of the misunderstanding here is the definition of ‘conservative’.
If you accept only some aspects of conservative ideology but reject others (like indulging in outrageous sacrilege ala South Park), conservatives will not consider you brethren, even if you express sentiments like that attributed to Stone/Parker in BrainGlutton’s post.
So, yeah, not many comedians meet the standard of conservative, because the majority of people don’t. Although the majority of people meet some standards of conservative.
You didn’t specify “driven off the air”, you said:
Did you intend to say “and was driven off the air?” For that matter you also said “that you think…” - well, I think.
Tell you what, you just answer whichever you prefer, and if he gives you any shit about it, we’ll kick his ass!
Maybe they’re not funny, or maybe Joe Camel nihilism creeps me out. Maybe both.
This meaningless equivocation is getting so old. How about, simply for the sake of this argument alone, we call everyone who voted for John McCain in the last presidential election a conservative.
South Park has been offered as an example by a conservative, do others concur?
If not, is there something else?
More Conservative Humor: Day By Day a right-wing cartoon by Chris Muir.
It’s not exactly side-splitting hilarious - more like the right-wing alternative to Doonesbury, except a little funnier.
Scrappleface is a conservative satire blog. I don’t read it, but I think it’s fairly popular.
Thank you.
“Democrats have held back funds, negotiated with our enemies in time of war, labeled us as war criminals, declared the US defeated a year ago…” says the typical American soldier in the cartoon, venting their unanimousl rage at the arch fiend Nancy Pelosi.
Droll stuff, Sam.
Now, if you tell me three times that you really thought that was funny, I promise I’ll believe you. OK, I mean, I’ll try.
:dubious: No. Still irrelevant unless their material has pro-conservative content.
I just finished saying that i didn’t find the cartoon to be always side-splittingly funny, but rather that it’s more like the right-wing’s Doonesbury. Maybe it would help you to know that I think Doonesbury is usually one of the most dreadfully unfunny comics I can think of.
Heck, maybe I would have found it funny if they didn’t have Ann Coulter’s grim visage plastered on the page. Every time I see that face, my nuts try to crawl away and hide.
huh, this is interesting, some kind of disconnect, cause this is how I percieve groups that identify themselves a “liberal”, stuffy, stuck up self righteous snobs, kinda funny in a way I guess we all need to step back and laugh at ourselves. Not trying to pick on you specifically LouisB, you just seemed to distill the thought best btw.
That said, Dennis Miller really surprised me, as did Mel Gibson. I have to wonder if its not that there aren’t any conservative funny people, its just that they tend to keep it close to the chest (as has been pointed out already)
