I only just noticed this post, but no, as far as I know there’s no way to disable the accelerometer. Still, it hasn’t been any kind of problem for me. To select playlists or albums or artists, it’s necessary to have the unit in the vertical position, but when it’s horizontal you can still adjust the volume and the scrubber bar and move back and forth through your currently selected album or playlist.
Not sure if this tells you what you need to know, but I thought I’d give it a shot.
Congrats on your decision!
(And thanks Tuckerfan for the info above. I hadn’t seen the thread you linked to nor some of the programs you suggested. I’ll check 'em out.)
And my condolences to Spacegirl. I’m tempted to try to talk you into getting the iPhone, but I don’t know what your situation is so I won’t. Instead I’ll just say that among the people I’ve known who’ve gotten an iPod/iPhone, they’ve turned out to be much more useful and enjoyable than previously imagined. (And, if you do go ahead and get one, you’ll save yourself from having to give that Blackberry the ol’ stinkeye every time you think of what might have been. ;))
Has anyone tried recording audio on the Touch using something like this? What’s the quality like? Or does anyone know of any other accessories that could be used to record audio? I’d like to use it for concerts and things like that if it’s possible.
Unless its really freakin’ loud at the concert, those won’t do you much good. You’ll get audio (I’ve held the mike a foot or so away from my face, and its been able to pick up when I’ve talked in a slightly louder than normal voice), but it won’t be high in volume. It’ll also be in mono (as will all recordings made using a Touch). There’s a number of mikes out there which will work with the Touch (even if they just say they’re for the iPhone), and you’d probably be better off with one of those, than an iPhone headset, if you want anything approaching decent sound quality.
If its a 2nd Gen Touch, all of them should. There might be some issues with those that are cases designed to fit around the iPhone. The Touch is a bit smaller than the iPhone, but not much (someone might even make an adapter).
If you’ve got a first gen, then you have to look at the specialized mikes, which are rare and a bit expensive.
