Maybe the bean counter @ SDMB stops at 9,999 (like in the late '70s and early '80s, when nobody foresaw the alleged Y2K problem)

Maybe it does, like in the 76ā Olympics when Nadia Comenich(sp) scored a perfect 10 and the score board read 1.00. Nobody foresaw anybody getting a perfect score.
Or not.

This newsflash just in! In a move to cut down expenditures and remain a viable entity, The Chicago Reader has announced that, as of 12:00 P.M. Central Time July 8, 2001, it will be eliminating a number of services, including the perennial favourite Straight Dope Message Board. It is strongly suggested that those who wish to leave a final message on the boards do so before the above-mentioned deadline for it will forever be shut down starting at 12:01 P.M.

This is pretty funny, aināt it? Usually, the handymobile careens around town, broadsiding telephone poles, narrowly missing pedestrians, and zipping off in a swirl of odd diatribe.
Now he seems to be hiding in some backalley, revving his engine, and waiting for the penultimate moment.

Terribly sorry to be picky **elle** dear, but there seems so little else to talk about.
About this āpenultimateā thing. The word was actually intended to mean the one **before** last. I know it gets popped in a bit haphazardly today, but itās so useful in its original sense. I think āultimate momentā would have been a splendid usage.
Apologies for being so english professorish (thanks **Soda** - my new identity!) but as I said not much else to talk about at this point. Except how my blood ran cold at that wicked **omni-NOT** ās hoax post. Isnāt he a bad boy?
And can I just say to **handy** ā¦
Please - just think of the moderators. Make the goddamn post, and just think of the moderators!! Wonāt **somebody** think of the moderators??
