> The Foobiverse’s Journal is a strange thing. I read it for years up till the end of For Better or For Worse, and the critiquing was pretty interesting. In the last few years, though that strip is re-runs, whoever is writing the FJ is not just critiquing strips from years ago, but is so viciously attacking Lynne Johnston personally, laboring mightily every day to make some kind of sneering dig at her, that I think they are - seriously - mentally ill. They’re obsessed with her! They talk about her life, her family, her travels, her retirement, her marriages like deranged stalkerish head cases. All the better to tie into whatever is wrong with the strip that day. Creepy!

Okay, I’m coming out. I am/was the originator of the Foobiverse Journal. I maintained it off and on until the last first-run strip. After that, I left it open to all comers. I didn’t appoint **dreadedcandiru** ; he just stepped up. I check in very occasionally, and what you say about his postings is true, but so be it. [I handed over the reins, and I no longer own the horses.](http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexdate.php?q=2008-03-31&Submit=Search)

That said, the year before last, I was at a comics mini-convention in Pittsburgh, and I met Lynn. [Full account is here](http://binky-betsy.livejournal.com/1169728.html), but TL;DR is, she was part of a panel discussion, and when asked how the internet had affected her work, she noted that “Some people are so mean-spirited!”

Well I figured, if I’d been brave enough to say it online, I had to be brave enough to say it to her face, so when the artists were assembled to sign and draw, I went to her table and introduced myself as the author of the Foobiverse. “Oh god,” was her reply. I forged on and said that I was sorry she’d thought my blog was mean-spirited, but that I’d thought the strip itself was mean-spirited, the last few years. And was told, “It’s a comic strip; get over it.” In retrospect, it’s just as well it was me and not **dreadedcandiru**.
