He stole (overtly shoplifted) a single box of Swisher Sweets, and walked down the middle of a street (not an arterial). What exactly happened with the police encounter is uncertain, but calling him a “dangerous thug” seems unreasonable. Did he have a criminal/arrest record?

> [Here’s the Ferguson report from the DOJ again](http://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/opa/press-releases/attachments/2015/03/04/ferguson_police_department_report.pdf). There are tons and tons of findings that point to systemic bias in the department against black people. Here’s just one example for which I can’t think of a logical non-racist explanation:
>
> So the ratio of black to non-black speeding tickets when on the basis of radar or laser was X, but the ratio of black to non-black speeding tickets when on the basis of the “officer’s own visual assessment” (or some other non-laser/radar basis) was X + 48%.

Because you don’t need radar to tell that someone is going over 50mph in a 25 zone?

So you’re saying that black people speed _more often_ when laser/radar isn’t present to track them, but white people do not? 'Cause that’s what the statistics say, taken at face value, unless there’s another explanation (like, say, some bias leading to more speeding tickets without radar/laser basis).

I guess black people must have magical radar/laser sense. Puts a new spin on the “magical negro” trope…

> Who had the more accurate understanding of how Michael Brown was treated, the BLM leaders who said he was shot in the back, or the autopsy that said he wasn’t?

You keep asking questions without ever answering the questions that are asked you.

For example:

> [@Typo\_Negative](#):
>
> Would the lawyer have made a difference? Would you have gotten a sooner court date? Remember from the cite, she was told the NEXT time the court was in session was 8 months away. Was she lied to? Again, do only those represented by counsel get timely court dates?.

and this one:

> [@k9bfriender](#):
>
> You say she must have been mirandized. This shows that you are ignorant of the process. They only would have mirandized her before they interrogated her, and they never interrogated her. The did not need to. They already had an indictment, so the just locked her away.
>
> …
>
> Why do you think that they would have asked her if she wanted a lawyer, when at no time in the process would they have been required to ask if she wanted a lawyer? They did not need to give her a lawyer until the bail hearing.

And there’s the time where you didn’t understand that a person in a low-income job who didn’t show up to work for 96 days probably lost her job, so I asked you if you thought they held her job for her:

> [@Evil\_Economist](#):
>
> Your theory is that she didn’t lose her job? You think employers hold their employees’ jobs while they’re locked up for 96 days? or perhaps that she is independently wealthy and therefore doesn’t need to work? Fill me in on your reasoning here.

Maybe you should hold off asking questions until you’ve answered a few.

Wonderful news! When did that happen? Be good to know, because if you can say when, then you can say how. Which is, you could prove it. Is that what all your black friends tell you?

No? Well, then, they must be wrong, they have not confronted the facts that you have. The facts that you have not given us. But you have them! Or, if they are not wrong, then they are making shit up.

Prove it. Failing that, re-examine your certainty.

I’m not sure which would be the most troubling: that you’re ignorant or stupid enough to believe what you wrote, or that you’re dishonest enough to write it knowing that it’s flat out wrong.

</div>

Speaking of stupidity and of writing what you know is flat out wrong, I’ve long noticed you’ve had no response to my having disproved your various claims upthread.

You know, the ones where you tried to pretend you weren’t a general purpose asshole in the main but acted that way only to the likes of me?

Or where you denied that you’d said you ‘owned’ having been an asshole on the board and tried to pass off instead a post that was in reality just a self-aggrandizing bit of bullshit attacking me as being what you really said, only to have me post the exact quote and cite the post in which you made it?

To wit, I refer you to post [9672](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=19693976&postcount=9672) (where you spouted most of your dishonest bullshit) and to post [9678](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=19694750&postcount=9678) (where I handed you your ass).

Yet one of your most timeworn accusations toward me is one of ‘mendacity’.

It is to laugh.

It’s simple really: i decided that i didn’t want this important topic hijacked into another **Sharting Fartist** show. The subject matter of this thread is too important for that.

You’re a shit-flinging, paper-towel-tube-fucking dishonesty-mongering monkey, and deserve to be treated as such, but not when it detracts from the important issues we’re dealing with here.

If you would really like me to hand your ass to you in debate (yet again), please feel free to start a new Pit thread and invite me over. I can’t promise that i’ll be civil, because that would be more than a piece of shit like you deserves, but at least we could confine your idiocy to a self-contained discussion, without hijacking stuff that is too complicated for you to understand.

If you do take up my offer, i promise you that the first thing i do will be to respond to your above-mentioned post.

😃

It’s hilarious how you suddenly became so concerned with the importance of the subject of this thread at the exact same moment I showed that virtually every claim you’d made up to that point was full of shit, as you certainly hadn’t shown any such need for constraint before then.

The rest of that little diatribe is just a bunch of hot-headed ad hominem bullshit brought about by your embarrassment over having been proven full of shit and frustration over not being able to do anything about it.

So as for me, my work here where you’re concerned is done. I’ve shown you (yet again…how many times has it been now?) to be full of shit regarding the claims you made in this thread at least and that suits me fine for now.

The BLM movement isn’t about individual cases – it’s about the larger issue of disparate treatment by law enforcement. They’ve made some tactical errors, in my view, by focusing on bad examples,

Fucking finally. Good to hear people start admitting it.

The bad examples dilute the good examples and noone ignores Walter Scott type examples its just that it gets mixed in with several Michael Brown type examples.

> And BLM is doing good things. The very fast and very significant increase in body camera usage is at least partially due to their advocacy. Many police departments are working with the local BLM representatives, such as the Boston PD, which (IIRC) hasn’t killed an unarmed person in many years. Bad PDs like Ferguson are getting more scrutiny and bad behavior and bad policies are more likely to be publicized and changed, at least partially due to BLM advocacy.

You can change equipment, like body cams but you aren’t going to get less racist cops if you think the problem is racism rather than lack of training. Lack of training is expensive to fix, flat out racist and some people claim is damn near impossible to fix with riots and looting.

IIRC the DOJ report was criticized in several cases for not correcting for a bunch of variables, but yeah that is a pretty racist part of the country.

Well, Jim Crow in the sense of facially discriminatory laws, is gone. Now we have the war on drugs which has mandatory sentencing for crack but a renewed appreciation for rehabilitation when white people get hooked on opiods. But technically, that’s not Jim Crow.

That is just wretchedly dishonest. To flatly equate protesting injustice with “riots and looting” as if there were never any distinction. Are they stupid, do you think? There is an easy and orderly solution for their piddling problems, but no! No, they are stupid, they turn to violence and looting even in the face of your calm assurance that it is not necessary.

Honestly, you believe that? Do you have a vast and comprehensive knowledge of them, that entitles you? Are they protesting injustice, or just a bunch of crybabies making shit up.
