Most people would find it hard to admit that they were fearing for their life from a 19 year old 115lb girl, I find this officer’s honesty refreshing.

> This comes back to the post I made a few days back about the problem when police officials don’t address the issue when officers lie in their reports and then the video comes out afterwards.

And then wonder why we don’t take them at their word when there is no video evidence to back them up.

If at least the officers were punished accordingly, then you would feel that they have some credibility, but with the knowledge that they can lie with no repercussions, it seems more like than not that they are, at the very least, telling “their side” of the story.

And yet the law still always gives them the benefit of the doubt. It boggles the mind. WHY? How many instances of police lying in police reports would you have to show a judge to convince him that, gee, maybe the guy is just as likely to lie as anyone else?

It’s when juries finally stop believing the word of a cop that things may actually start to change.

What official statements? How does a big decentralized movement make official statements? Or are you saying “Hey don’t look at the violent stuff that BLM does, that’s not part of BLM just the non-violent stuff is part of BLM”

So if I can point to official statements by the NRA saying they aren’t racist, then we can put the NRA is racist theory to bed?

Michael Brown’s dad said it in the immediate aftermath of the not guilty verdict.

Hopefully some day you won’t be so irrationally prejudiced against beaten-down and victimized people when, very occasionally, small groups of them react with human emotion that sometimes goes too far (something that has occurred multiple times with literally every single instance of oppression in human history).

Wait I thought that BLM wasn’t violent? Now its just a small part of BLM that is violent? Well I guess that’s progress at least.

Maybe next month we can get you to realize that there is no excuse for violence in a democratic society and that BLM was using violence as part of their strategy to get what they wanted.

> A 40-year-old woman who family members said called 911 to report a possible assault in the alley Saturday night was fatally shot by a Minneapolis police officer, according to authorities and the woman’s soon-to-be stepson.
>
> The shooting happened at the south end of the alley on W. 51st Street between Washburn and Xerxes avenues S. in the city’s Fulton neighborhood. The woman, an Australian native, and her fiancé lived in the 5000 block of Washburn. They had planned to marry in August, a family friend said.

Minneapolis Police Body Cam Data for March 2017

Total number of officers working with body cameras Total hours worked in 911 capacity Body worn camera hours
Precinct 1 79 11,576.5 439.48
Precinct 2 74 10,177 388.72
Precinct 3 94 13.454.75 506.55
Precinct 4 95 13,465.75 584.17
Precinct 5 71 10,112.8 513.03
City Hall 7 979.5 112.32

The mayor has asked the BCA to investigate the shooting and one of the city council members has asked the police why they’re not using the cameras we just spent $4 million on. I’m sure the police will offer a ton of excuses and try to fight back, but this is becoming a political issue.

</div>

Tidied up your data a bit, to make it easier to see:

```auto
Precinct Officers	Total Hours	Total Cam Hours
Precinct 1 79 11,576.5 439.48
Precinct 2 74 10,177 388.72
Precinct 3 94 13.454.75 506.55
Precinct 4 95 13,465.75 584.17
Precinct 5 71 10,112.8 513.03
City Hall 7 979.5 112.32
```

I think that departments that have adopted body cameras should make it a fireable offense not to have the cameras activated during contact incidents, especially incidents that result from a 911 call.

</div>

I think it should be a legal issue. If you shoot someone in the line of duty, your body camera is deactivated, and you can’t give a _damn_ good reason why it’s deactivated, you’re gonna face charges and suspicion of murder.

I do like the idea of punishment for not having it on when responding to a 911 call. Simply make it part of the report and then have stricter punishment than what an officer faces for coming in late to work.

I think that more officers should face legal charges for filing false statements.

Their defense will be: “But human memory is not reliable! You can’t hold us accountable for accidentally kicking the gun near him and forgetting to mention it in the report, we’re only human!”.

From today’s article;

“Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources said. No weapon was found at the scene.”

Well there is _some_ information.

The police, part of a department that has adopted the use of body cameras, did not activate their body cameras for this call. Neither did the car’s camera capture the shooting.

Whatever else happened or didn’t happen, this is, in my opinion, newsworthy information in a case like this.

Officer Mohamed Noor, one of the first Somali police officers in Minnesota, joined the force in early 2015 and already had one complaint of excessive force against him.

Oh yes, and police are _required_ to activate their body cameras on calls like this, and they did not.
