Of course not, don’t be silly.

There are many other ways that the cops abuse the mentally ill rather than just shooting them. They [rape](https://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/in-trial-of-former-michigan-city-cop-accused-of-rape/article_26948c39-798c-5724-b788-737e3639ac6b.html) them, or, sometimes, they play with their [lives like it’s a game.](https://www.theroot.com/minneapolis-cops-secretly-used-date-rape-drug-on-suspec-1826919805)

As the man drifted into unconsciousness, one EMS worker asked how much ketamine had been injected. Another EMS worker suggested they dose the unconscious man again.

No surprises there.

Here is the official twitter account for the Berkeley Police Department. I’m not going to link directly (and they may choose to delete the posts), but they are posting the names, ages and a mugshot of the protesters they arrested. Scrolling through the twitter feed posting mugshots doesn’t look to be a normal practice.

There is something really distasteful about doing this. I know it isn’t illegal to do so. But it gives the impression that it is politically motivated. And in the wake of things like Stormy Daniels getting arrested and incidents like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-y2jHymXnJI)and like [this](https://www.kare11.com/article/news/ice-agents-taking-man-into-custody-captured-on-video/89-579820892)happening with no reprecussions one can’t help but think that there are a significant amount of people in law enforcement who are committed to going rouge under this presidency.

From that story: "The league claims its goal is to create “positive relationships between law enforcement officers and the youth of our community through educational, athletic and leadership programs.”

Some positive relationship building in handcuffing a kid for bouncing a ball.

Going back to the “Living While Black in America” thread, this is one example - just one out of undoubtedly many - that black people experience from a young age and continue to experience into adulthood. This is something that might happen to a white child, but it’s much, much less likely to, and it almost damn sure wouldn’t have happened to any white child I grew up with. And there were little rat bastard children who undoubtedly did many of the same mischievous shit that children of any race do. Black children are criminalized from an early age in a way that people of other ethnicities are not.

Seriously? Bouncing a fucking ball? Not listening to an adult?

See, this also points to another problem, which is the problem of bias in policing and in many of our public community institutions. The police officer treated the black child not as a mischievous smart-ass little kid, but as a thug. It reveals the underlying psychology of many police officers in their encounters, specifically their encounters with black people. They approach every black individual with suspicious of criminal behavior, even if they’re dressed in a suit and tie and driving to work.

Another thing that an episode such as this one reveals about police training is that, evidently, much of what passes for “training” doesn’t emphasize deescalation or conflict resolution; rather, it clearly emphasizes a reliance on overwhelming force in even the slightest examples of friction or resistance. There are so many other possible techniques that the officer could have used besides the option he chose, which was essentially a nuclear option.

This kind of mentality does the exact opposite of what we expect from police, which is to maintain public safety. But as I’ve said on another thread, or maybe this one, the way that officers are being trained to behave is a product of an authoritarian mentality that has gripped our society, particularly the white population, over the last 2-3 decades. We’ve been encouraging police brutality, aggressive prosecution, harsh sentencing, and even harsher treatment in detention, without any effort at all toward educating and rehabilitating people.

Police often show restraint.

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/48Xw0rMdcHI/maxresdefault.jpg "Dashcam Shows Intense Shootout Between Troopers And Suspect") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Xw0rMdcHI)

> [@](#):

> State Police have released dramatic dashcam video of the shootout on Route 33 that seriously injured Pennsylvania State Trooper Seth Kelly in 2017. The suspect Daniel Clary was convicted of attempted murder in May. In November 2017, State Trooper Ryan Seiple made what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop on Route 33 in Plainfield Township, Northampton County. Dashcam video shows Clary getting a ticket for speeding, but as the trooper begins to pull away, Clary flags him down again. Trooper Sieple called for backup and the video shows Sieple and Trooper Seth Kelly putting Clary through a sobriety test. The video shows Clary unstable on his feet during several tests. When the troopers try to arrest Clary, he resists and they wrestle him to the ground. Clary attempts to fight back. At one point, the fight spills out onto the road with traffic driving by. Police tried to use a taser on Clary but he gets up and reaches into the driver’s side window of his car. The video shows Clary firing the gun multiple times at both Trooper Sieple and Trooper Kelly. Both officers return fire and Clary drives away.
>
> Trooper Kelly was shot four times during the exchange of gunfire Nov 7, 2017, on the side of Route 33 in Plainfiield Township. He arrived at a local hospital clinically dead. He spent 12 days in a medically-induced coma and 25 days in the hospital. He doesn’t remember the shootout. Houck showed jurors the 45-mintue video of the traffic stop, the struggle and its aftermath. He released the entire video to [lehighvalleylive.com](http://lehighvalleylive.com). We cut out the approximately two-minute segment from where Clary initially resists until he flees in his car. The video is violent and jarring. Houck believes he could have suppressed its release. But he and the troopers believe it’s important that the public should view the video to see just how dangerous police work can be and to see the restraint employed by the troopers before they were forced to open fire. “We think the community should see it,” Houck said. Clary, 22, of Effort, Pa., was convicted June 29 of multiple felonies, including attempting to kill Seiple and Kelly. His attorney argued at trial he was scared and shot at the troopers because he feared for his life. Clary will be sentenced Aug. 31.

Justine Damond. Shot by Officer Mohamed Noor. [Killing of Justine Damond - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Justine_Damond) Who finally got indicted in March of this year. Despite, to the best of my knowledge, Officer Noor refusing to cooperate with investigators at all. [Minneapolis Police Officer Who Fatally Shot Justine Damond Refusing To Be Interviewed | HuffPost News](https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2017/07/18/minneapolis-police-officer-who-fatally-shot-justine-damond-refus_a_23036573/)

Last I checked, an intentional homicide without any justification or extenuating circumstances is a crime. Surprising that it took the authorities in Minneapolis eight months to figure that out. Getting a search warrant for the victim’s house, after her demise, was a nice touch. [Justine Damond investigators search home for drugs | Daily Mail Online](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4730618/Justine-Damond-investigators-search-home-drugs-Minneapolis.html)

Guess they couldn’t find anything to get Noor off the hook. Your guess is as good as mine whether he’ll be found guilty, or if found guilty, gets anything more than a sentence at the low end of the range.
