Am I the only one who thinks this story is bogus? Shakes has been here a while. He knows by now what kinds of things to say to piss off Dopers. I for one, do my best to resist when the little devil on my shoulder tells me to **make a big long post about how awesome Nickelback is!** I find it hard to believe he would have admitted nerdgirl told him to get lost, unless it was to mollify all this heat he’s been getting. ---

And I was happy. I was alone for three years but I was OK with it. And one day, when Mr. MercyStreet came a-courtin’, I knew he was everything I had been looking for. He picked me up, dusted me off, and said, “Hey! Slightly damaged! But still a good bargain!” I ought to go back and thank all the jerks. ---

**Shakes** , I can’t believe after 4 pages you still don’t get it. I keep thinking about this thread and why the OP leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. So I will join many others and try to explain again the error of your ways. It’s the way you assume yourself to be SUCH a great catch that your presence will infinitely brighten the world of this lesser being you “feel sorry for”. What makes going out with YOU such a wonderful experience? I’m extremely shy- if I’m talking and more than 2 people are listening, my face turns red. Often, if I’m speaking to an attractive stranger, my face will turn red, but it definitely doesn’t mean that I want to date him. It’s not that I lack self-esteem, believe me I don’t, and it’s not anything I’m thinking about. It just happens; I try to ignore it and move on. In summary, what pisses ME off personally about your OP is that you seem to see yourself as a better PERSON than this girl and you seem to think that the gift of a date with you would go in her scrapbook and be a story to tell her grandchildren about. I hardly think that a date with you would be all THAT exciting. ---
