The “Mayor DiBlasio has thrown the NYPD under the bus” meme has mostly come from the police union. This union is so thin-skinned that it sees asking a cop to pick up the litter that may have missed the trash can as an attack on police. But it is controversial, and the 24/7 news cycle loves controversy no matter how fabricated, so it has gained traction. The ambush double-murder/suicide of two police officers is tragic, no matter what. No one deserves that; no family should have to cope with such wanton slaughter. Who knows what the psycho was trying to accomplish, but all it does is make the police force double-down on the ‘us vs. them’ mentality and worsen things for everyone, law-abiding or not. > [@Mr. Miskatonic](#): > > Well, here in Philadelphia we once had the opposite. Did I hear right that there was another cop killing by a nut in Florida? This is disturbing and disgusting and I feel horrible for the families and children of the officers, and I worry this is only going to make cop/public relations even worse. This whole damn thing should be a wake up call for every police department in the US that shit has gotten out of hand big shakeups need to happen. Right now it is like a negative feedback loop where each side just views the other negatively which causes further negative treatment and just keeps things ratcheting up. It will probably take decades to turn this around. ---

I’m really disappointed that it was **aceplace** –who normally shows respect for cops–who decided to use it as ammunition for his opinions about the Eric Garner case. Two cops died at no fault of their own. Show some fucking respect. ---

Actually, there’s not a blanket ban on racial slurs in the pit, the mods have said they’ll allow some, but I seriously doubt those two are on the “okay” list and for obvious reasons the mods have said they won’t release which ones are and aren’t on it. That said, I’d love to see IJ test it out(apologies to Miller for any headaches he’d have to deal with). ---
