[QUOTE=An Gadaí]
I do kind of wish there had been some sense of hope, no matter how grim their short term outlook was to be. In some ways McCarthy could have made a more gruesome world but one that offered more to the protagonists.

The woman when she saw him put her arms around him and held him. Oh, she said, I am so glad to see you. She would talk to him sometimes about God. He tried to talk to God but the best thing was to talk to his father and he did talk to him and he didnt forget. The woman said that was all right. She said that the breath of God was his breath yet though it pass from man to man through all of time.

I agree with you **An Gadai** , beautiful book.

I read it for my MA exam. Other texts we had to study were **Everyman** and **The Revenger’s Tragedy**. A lot of the readings and studies done on both texts were in terms of allegory. By the time I read **The Road** , I couldn’t convince my brain it wasn’t a giant allegory. Every time I tried to read it as a more straight-forward, science-fiction story about literal people on a literal journey to a literal location, it just didn’t work.
