I ordered some clippers for hair and I’m an old guy so I don’t worry much about my hair and I work at home. Here in NC they said it’s illegal for hair people to try and work at home and if caught they could be fined. ---

My mind’s been officially blown because I never thought about that until now. It adds an additional meaning to its use in Dr Strangelove that’s for sure: I had just assumed it was being ironic in both playing off of averted WW2 nostalgia and emphasizing that people _won’t_ meet again, but adding the afterlife to it, while still ironically used, makes it more appropriate than droll. ---

Today in Austria: [ul] [li] Compliance with the mandatory self-isolation rules remains good, but not perfect. Since the rules were imposed, police have issued 16,000 citations to people violating them. 1189 of these citations were issued yesterday. The media continues to sporadically report on particularly egregious cases, such as people holding “coronavirus parties” in their homes, though these seem to be thankfully few and far between.[/li] [li] The proposal to make the Red Cross’s coronavirus tracking app mandatory for all residents continues to attract criticism. Among those urging the federal government not to proceed with this idea are Vienna’s health minister and the Austrian Red Cross itself. As a result, some (but not all) of the politicians who had previously supported this proposed measure have backed down.[/li] [li] The annual conscription into the Austrian armed forces has been indefinitely postponed due to the pandemic. (Normally all school-leaving citizens must serve for six months in the military, or nine months in civilian service.)[/li] [li] Schools remain open for the sole purpose of caring for children whose parents work in critical jobs. On Friday, only 2300 of the country’s 682,000 school-age children were in attendance. The schools will continue this service during the Easter break, though only 1800 students will be attending then.[/li] [li] The city of Vienna, together with its Chamber of Commerce, have founded an association to assist local companies suffering under the pandemic. The association will manage a capital volume of €50 million (of which €20 million was contributed by the city).[/li] [li] Tomorrow the chancellor and vice-chancellor will be holding a press conference to present their roadmap for the coming weeks and months. Then hopefully we will find out whether we will have to endure further restrictions on movement and activities, or whether the existing ones will be eased. The chancellor and foreign minister have already intimated in various interviews that freedom to travel may be restricted in some way for a long time.[/li] [li] Current statistics: 11,907 confirmed infections, 204 deaths, 2998 recovered.[/li] [/ul] ---

Many hospitals around here closed down their laundries at the same time that they told nurses that they would wash their uniforms, and started using contract laundry services, but even so I think that the washing process would be very unhospitable for viruses – just like washing your hands is, only hotter, harder, and with stronger soap. ---

I was in the pool a few minutes ago, and darn cold it was too. A commercial airliner flew overhead going from Bahrain to Frankfurt. This is this is the first such jet I have seen in a very long time. ---
