The thing is, I’m sure they never realized a secure vaccine proof would be needed. After all, I don’t have secure proof of any of the many other vaccines I have had. They assumed, I’m sure, that the vast majority of eligible people would get the shot, so secure proof would not be necessary. A bad assumption, as it turned out.
From the beginning there was talk of vaccine passports. The US decided not to do that. But the implication of that is that there’s no way to require proof of vaccination in real time. You can get it for something like employment, because the employer can check employees against the state vaccine registries. But you can’t really do it for sporting events and such.
You can require it, but you have to go on the honor system for practical purposes.
There is the Clear Health Pass, which several arenas and stadiums are starting to use:
I forget how to do this the special way that makes the links for you, but I quoted this post and responded to it over in the fake vaccination cards thread.
Which is what New York State does; also some others, I believe.
I’m carrying the printout from the website, along with a copy of my card. Haven’t been anywhere I needed to show them (I haven’t been anywhere much), but I’ve got them if I need them.
233,558,660 total cases
4,778,872 dead
210,386,345 recovered
In the US:
44,054,825 total cases
711,222 dead
33,520,958 recovered

This isn’t really news but it fits in well here. We’re in France at the moment and every - EVERY - bar, cafe and restaurant that we have been in required the pass sanitaire - vaccine passport. IIRC the vaccination rate in this vaccine hesitant county is just shy of 84%. Coercion works.
j
84% of total, or of those over 12? Because if that’s of total, that’s amazing.
Yep, 83.9% over the age of twelve. Chapeau, as they say round here.
j
Oops - misinterpreted your question there. But impressive anyway, huh?
j
absolutely!
Today my company sent out an email saying that you need to be fully vaccinated, have some type of exception, or lose your job. Previously they were encouraging people to get vaccinated but nothing about losing your job. I do not work for a government agency, school or hospital so I was a bit surprised by the announcement especially as they said it does not matter if you are not going into the office, which is not set to re open until at the earliest January, or not. you have to get vaccinated.
The decision by the US Government was mentioned several times in the announcement. I do not know how many other companies are going to use it as cover for what they already want to do, but if so, then the intent of the mandate by the Biden administration is working.

Does you company have more than 100 employees? I believe the mandate says companies with at least 100 employees must vaccinate or test. I could be very wrong, but I think the number of employees allows OSHA to get involved.
Again, I could be very wrong, so please don’t take my word for this. Check for yourself if you think its important to know.
On the advice of @Johnny_L.A, I checked my state record online, saw that they were missing my first jab, and called the pharmacy where I got my shots to have them call it in to the state (the pharmacist said that the state had missed a lot of the early shots). All is now mostly corrected - it only took a few days to update.
I’d advise everyone to check their own records now, before they’re needed.
As of Sept 18, Canada’s coverage for over 12 years of age was:
85.82 received at least one dose
79.63% fully vaccinated.
If we can get to over 85% fully vaccinated by late October, I think we’ll be good. Of course, Alberta and Saskatchewan are lagging. And are having a crisis at the moment in hospitalizations and ICU usage. Not a coincidence.
I’m glad you got it sorted.
234,072,335 total cases

The injunction against Denver mayor Hancock’s order that all city & county employees and workers in high-risk fields including teachers (who are not city/county OR private employees but still fall under the order) has failed. Starting tomorrow if you are not vaccinated or have a waiver you will face disciplinary action up to and including firing.
Alaska is again alone among the states for setting a new seven-day-average daily new case record of 1428 as of yesterday (individual non-averaged daily highs have exceeded 4000 more than once), way above the previous high of 714 reported back in December 2020. And it’s still going up rapidly.
No other state is even close to record highs, although several are increasing (with Montana proportionally about the next highest). But the states reporting new record highs last month seem to be simmering down, even Florida.
The US as a whole seems to be simmering down, too, although we still have 4-5 times the average new daily caseload of our nearest competitors.
COVID-19 deaths much higher in Washington’s Republican counties, analysis shows | KNKX Public Radio
The death toll from the “fifth wave” of COVID-19 is hitting Republican counties in Washington much harder than Democratic ones, according to a new analysis.
As of this week, the death rate for people with COVID-19 was 44.4 per 100,000 in counties that voted over 60 percent Republican in statewide races in 2020. By contrast, counties that went for Democratic statewide candidates by 60 percent or more have a death rate of just 6.8 per 100,000.
