I attended a Zoom webinar a few days ago and a question was, if you had one of the foreign vaccines like Sputnik and you came to the US, were you considered to be vaccinated, and the answer was no. The reply was that you should get the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine when you get here. So I imagine (though I am not a doctor) that you could use the same argument for adding on after getting one dose of J&J.
The real scandal is that Emergent wasn’t shut down 10 or 15 years ago. Experts say it’s been a shitshow forever.
That was my impression from the article I read when the news of the bad batch first came out. Apparently they have had numerous violations every time they have been inspected, and haven’t addressed them.
And FDA keeps buying management’s claims that “we’ll fix it honest”, despite being an utterly broken piratical business.
As has been pointed out, Johnson and Johnson is a one dose, so your friend is done.
The same question, though, has come up with people who are outside their country’s age restriction for Astra Zeneca, so they’ve been told not to get a second AZ shot. I’ve posted elsewhere the links to news about ongoing studies on mixing and matching 1st and 2nd doses. The research isn’t done, but I think the guess is that there will be no harm, and there may be some benefit, from mixing and matching.
Yes, I bet when the dust clears it will be found that mixing and matching produces better results than staying with the same vaccine.

I’ve had one dose of AZ and will get the second one as well as thing stand here in Italy, which is just fine by me. However, in Germany they will give people under 60 who have had one shot another type and research is being done into the effects.

India has now so far surpassed the United States that it has set a new world record for daily reported cases (seven day averaged)
Oops.
This isn’t good. The math suggests that around 24% of the fully vaccinated residents got covid from the unvaccinated employee anyway.
It’s pretty darned good, actually.
Most of those who were infected with the coronavirus despite being vaccinated did not develop symptoms or require hospitalization, but one vaccinated individual, who was a resident of the nursing home, died, according to the study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
My bold. How many would have been sick, hospitalized, and died without vaccination?
Yeah, i found it sad, but somewhat reassuring.
