If you look at the 2 shelves in question (surely a full view of all the shelves showing every shelf with a slope would be a more impressive photo), you’ll notice that having the books in ‘size order’ probably also equates to author order. Most authors works are produced by one publisher - which means one format - which means all the books for that author are the same size. So, by chance, it’s possible to have a shelf with, say, on 4 authors on it, that ‘miraculously’ line up in size order.
Plus there are several books on the top shelf that are clearly NOT in the correct size order, and maybe a couple on the bottom as well (angle makes it a bit unclear).
Methinks someone saw this, had a bit of a laugh and made up a story…
The quote in the article says that 18.5 bays were out of order, not the entire library.
